I'll have a whole lot more to say about LeBron's late LeBrick leading to Dirk's last miss, tomorrow at 10E, ESPN2. I'd better get some sleep

    Would be an impressive feat.

LeBron has scored 8 more points than Wade so far these playoffs. But if the first three games of this series are any indication, Wade might end up being the leading scorer. I'm sure LeBron will do what it takes for his team to win though. No way he sabotages the team for his personal glory. That's just not him. He does it for his team just like he'd do it for the kids.

Jam, the subtle goods, par the course.

LeBron has already cost them one game this series with his attempts at stat-padding. Tbh Wade is partially to blame as well, for trying to appease James and help him get his when the Heat had a huge lead in Game 2. You can clearly see Wade was not about to make the same mistake in Game 3.

There's only 1 player in NBA history that has purposely cost his team a le, due to his ego..

Lebron would be stupid to not defer to Wade, however, you would assume that the Mavs would make an adjustment to Wade, which should open things up for Lebron..unless they keep letting Wade get his looks..

Regardless, a feat that has only been accomplished by the elite in NBA history would be quite historic..

No ones arguing that, unfortunately he's like Donovan McNabb in his Eagles days though...he'll only take you so far. At least he's got the NBA's current best closer on his team.

Don't blame me, blame Phil Jackson for saying it..

I'll never forget Shaquille's face during that series..shooting 60% from the field, scoring at will, but the other guy wanted all the glory..at one point, during one of that player's 40-foot heaves in double coverage, they zoomed Shaq's face, and you could tell that his time in LA was over..

he purposely tried to lose? i agree that team and his ego was completely out of wack, but im sure his "intent" was not to lose ...

Kobe was shooting something like 33% for the series and was taking more shots than Shaq who was shooting over 60%. Yeah, Kobe's ego cost the Lakers that series.

But on to Lebron, Wade is leading this team so far, but for Skip to say Wade will win Lebron les is ridiculous. Wade will probably win Lebron this le, but I'm sure Lebron will get it after this season and become an even better player.

Unless Skip means Wade will win Lebron les by showing him how to win this le, you know like the whole "teach a man to fish" story. But I doubt that's what he meant.

    coming for woj:
James had deferred to Wade’s disposition to dominate these Dallas Mavericks. Wade has that killer scoring DNA of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant(notes), and James will forever make the right play, the pass to a lesser teammate when cir stances dictate. Always more Magic than Michael, and that has a chance to make him one of the two or three greatest all-around players ever.

pretty high praise coming from someone who has ripped james all season. lebron recognizes a 38 year old kidd can't guard a prime wade. it's comical that the mavs are even trying that. so lebron is willingly reducing his shot attempts and letting wade take over instead of chucking 20+ shot attempts in the background hoping to grab that finals MVP. only stupid/selfish people do that.

HH didn't say Kobe purposely tried to lose. He said he purposely cost his team the le. There's certainly a distinction. I actually agree with that. Kobe played to win the Finals MVP. That much was his purpose. And in that purpose was one of the major reasons the Lakers lost. Kobe's intents and purposes to be "the man" were probably the main (I won't go so far as to say only, but main) reason the Lakers lost.

I don't know if Kobe is the only one guilty of that. Perhaps Wilt in one of his playoff campaigns against the Celtics. Maybe you could argue John Starks when he went into three point twilight zone shooting that one game. Maybe you could argue Pau Gasol this year when he let his personal feelings sabotage his team's chances. When you're talking about individual, personal intentions, there might be other examples. But we do know with near maximum certainty that Kobe and his play in 2004 directly cost the Lakers a championship that year. It's one of several stains on Kobe's career. It's not something Kobe or his fans can run from. And we all know that I'm a Kobe fan. 2004 was mostly Kobe's fault. He's not alone in the blame, but you'd be hard pressed to make a strong argument that he wasn't the primary one to blame.

This. Lebron could never take a team to the finals and if he went to a team like the Bulls Wade still would have led the Heat past him.

You and Jam can spin that whatever way you want ...taken at "face value" that says he lost that series on purpose. Maybe he meant what you said ... but that is not what the line states. "He purposely cost" ...I draw no distinction ...

I also dont agree on two things you guys are stating as fact.

    1. Was he gunning for the MVP? We know that ... how exactly?
It is conjecture. Did he shoot too much? yes. Was his shot selection a big part of why they lost? ...yes, you will never hear me dispute otherwise. But not HH, nor Jam or even PJ are psychics or Dr. phil ... so with all due respect, I will not accept that as a "fact" he was gunning for Finals MVP ...

Like I have said many times that team was "toxic" ...i read something on shaq the other day that pointed out they almost broke that team up before the 3 peat was complete (trust me it was THAT bad) but since they won the Lakers FO, kept them together.

    2. Not so sure Pistons wouldn't have STILL won with Shaq taking more shots. I think people give that Pistons team less credit then they deserve. Not only did they kick our ass in 2004, but pushed the spurs to the limit the following year. I do think Kobe made it easier to defend the Lakers by forcing stupid ass shots over Prince ....but i still believe the pistons were better coached, had better team unity and were not relying on aging stars like Payton and Malone like we were. Their defense was was light years better as well ...I guess we will never know because of the egos of both shaq and mainly Kobe. whatever I hated the Laker teams of 2002 - 2004 I dont know how we made 2 finals and won one ...with those two acting like some es ....

I recall during that series saying to a friend that Shaq is shooting 60% plus from the field and Kobe is NOT passing him the ball. He is jacking up jumpers and going one on one, trying to prove a point that Prince can't guard him.

Personally, I don't think he was thinking about the MVP or anything, and he was definitely trying to win the series, but he was also trying to make it a personal battle all about him to show how good he is. Selfish play in other words that backfired and cost his team.
