Any new info on the release date of this game? The latest info on the website said March 2011. It is April now and nothing. Looks like it is worth a look for me. I think I am going to be Sith.

Release was originally slated for Spring 2011, now it's simply Calendar 2011. The devs have indicated in the past that they want to reveal a release date at a major event, and with MMOs a release date is only usually announced a month or 2 before release. I'm hoping for an announcement at E3, putting them in the summer range. Remember Mass Effect 3 is coming out in Holiday 2011 (along with a ton of other awesome games) so I don't know if Bioware wants their 2 games going head to head in sales.

I hate Star Wars. Too bad ST:O was such a remarkable failure.

I am no Star Wars geek, and prefer Star Trek (not a geek in that either) over Star Wars. STO was so broken. Space Combat was decent, but the ground party was total crap. It turned out to be just an average game, and I was expecting something revolutionary.

At least with The Old Republic, I know what to expect.

I'm not sure I want to get into another MMO, but I'll give this a shot just because I loved KOTOR so much.

This game combines Bioware's single player RPGs and MMOs. Should be exciting

That was the most terrible part - space combat, what every starship captain avoids at almost all costs, even his own life, is the most refined and exciting part of ST:O. sigh.

That cinematic was badass. I'd pay alot of $$$ to watch a 90 minute movie looking like that.

I'm not an MMO guy, but there's no way I'd pay a scrip fee to play this. It's basically a WOW clone with prettier cutscenes/better story and no innovation

The only MMO I would even consider is Guild Wars 2, which will all over every other MMO out there once it comes out, IMO. (Plus, no subscription fee, just have to buy the game)

The youtube below does a great job of pointing out the strong points of GW2

One thing he does not point out is that the devs actually took into account players who don't want to join guilds and basically play it as a SP-type game, something that appeals greatly to me

    New Trailer out today
lol cinematics. Here's some gameplay, compare it to Guild Wars

It's garbage, and the same old (mmo gameplay) with ty graphics. I love Star Wars, but again, this just looks terrible.

That they've been developing this for, what, 4 or 5 years at least, and it looks this bad with the same DPS/Tank/Heal bull is beyond me. I really hope it flops, because the only way Bioware will change it's recent, ty-game making ways is to not pay for this junk they're throwing out.

I'm really scared of what ME3 will be once it's done......

I would really love to play this game as I am a starwars fan, but dammit why the does it have to be an MMO. I don't think I'll be playing this becuase of that even as good as it is.. I just don't have the time to put in MMO's anymore, and I don't want to get addicted to one again.

I was one of those people that got caught up in the WoW addiction a few years back when it first started and I lost so many hours of my life on it, especially being in a hardcore raiding guild and having to gear out for the end game raids, and I have been completely sober ( haven't played since) for about 4 years now. Now that I'm married, have a good job, and have a child on the way, I just can't do that again.

I hope the MMO thing will eventually die out.

    http://www.gamesindustry.biz/article...ve-of-warcraft

Analyst firm Cowen and Company has described EA's MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic as "highly derivative" of World of Warcraft and suggested the game may miss its 2011 release.

"We got hands-on time with the game, and were largely unimpressed," stated Doug Creutz, senior research analyst covering the media and entertainment sector, in the firm's E3 report.

"Despite promises from EA/Bioware that the le represents a major step forward in MMO design, what we saw was essentially a World of Warcraft clone with Star Wars character skins and the Bioware RPG nice/nasty dialogue tree mechanism bolted on for non-player character conversations."

Creutz also described the PC game's visuals as "competent but hardly breathtaking," but makes allowances for the landscape in which the demo was set. "Granted, we were playing in a desert area, so other areas may be more impressive-looking... on the other hand we question why EA chose a desert level to showcase the le."

It goes on to interpret EA's silence on a release date as a sign the game will be delayed until 2012, and cites this as the reason for the recent drop in EA's share price. The game was originally planned for a spring 2010 launch, and will be developer Bioware's first MMORPG.

Cowen and Company did however praise EA's Battlefield 3, which "looked impressive and was the clear leader in positive buzz at the show" and THQ's Saints Row: The Third, stating "we would compare the opening mission to the opening sequence of the James Bond movie Goldeneye - if it were directed by the creators of Jackass."

It also showed an interest in Activision's Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, which allows physical toys to interact with a variety of consoles. "Activision management thinks in terms of billion-dollar franchises, and we think Skylanders has the right elements to have a chance of reaching that goal."
