I like the 1989 and 2004 Pistons Rings.
So the 1984 Celtics were the first to break from the generic ring design.

Some good designs, I like the 08 Celtics, 02 Lakers and '93 Bulls.
Agreed, I'll add 07 Spurs ring to that list. BTW what is up with the 06 Heat ring, went back to generic...
Bulls rings are turrible
Depends on how you define 'break from generic'. The '67 Sixers ring was the first to introduce color and had a number of differences from the generic style (no basketball in the background, different lettering, team name on ring, etc).
Yeah, you're right; I missed that. Then the Celtics went back to the generic designs for 68.
All the lakers ones are pretty gay looking, especially 2010. Surprised ? Not at all.
