I've been bored (it's the offseason) and I was thinking the other day of when Timmy was in his last year of playing at a really high level. After serious thought, I came to the conclusion that that year was in the 2007 playoffs (NBA finals notwithstanding).

    Anyone have a different thought?

I think we can safely use All-NBA team as an accurate barometer.

So here's the career recap of Timothy R Duncan:

    1998 - 1st team
    1999 - 1st team
    2000 - 1st team (David Robinson 3rd team)
    2001 - 1st team (David Robinson 3rd team)
    2002 - 1st team
    2003 - 1st team
    2004 - 1st team
    2005 - 1st team
    2006 - 2nd team
    2007 - 1st team
    2008 - 2nd team (Manu Ginobili 3rd team)
    2009 - 2nd team (Tony Parker 3rd team)
    2010 - 3rd team
2011 - WHERE YOU GO TIMMY?!?! (Manu Gibobili 3rd team)

So even a 3rd teamer means you're a top 15 player (top 5% of league).

I didn't get to see more than a handful of Spurs games the last few years so I'll say he stopped being elite this past season. Which is so infuriating since the team was killing folks until April.

Look at that resume...why are we even debating this.

I'd say the 2009 season. He started off playing GREAT ball, but when that knee tendonosis started playing up he hasn't been the same consistently great Tim.

It's hard to pinpoint a specific time (because there isn't one), but my last memories of him dominating are from the 2008 playoffs.

Prime was probably around 05-06... he aged fairly well, considering the miles on those legs and the chronic knee issue...

I think Tim's "prime" was from 2002-2007, that to me was when he was at his best/most dominating. He was still great in 2008 and the beginning of 2009 but it wasn't like his play when he was winning MVPs, and there's nothing wrong with that
