Yes, he does have large buyout and just signed an extension as well. Whoever drafts Mirotic I am sure will not expect his services for at least 2 more seasons and in all likely hood will be more like 3-4 seasons away from coming to the NBA..

Mirotic is under contract until 2016 or 2017 with Real. His NBA buyout is €2.5M that it to say $3.5M with the current change rate.
The idea with Mirotic drafted at #29 would be to follow Splitter scheme: wait 3 years and sign him to a contract outside the rookie scale. It would work if the new CBA still allow teams to pay more than the rookie scale after 3 years overseas. While we, fans, have no idea about that, Spurs should know it since they knows what is in the owner's CBA proposition.

Bogdanovic was labelled as a great prospect when he was very young. He went in Spain but he struggled there. He went back to Croatia where he has been good for 2 years. I had some doubts about his interest for the NBA but reports said that he worked out with Nets. His contract situation isn't very clear. He reminds me Gordan Giricek.
If he is still here at #59, he will be a great option for Spurs.
Bruno, if Bertans and Mirotic were both available at 29, who would you pick and why? Or is there any non-international player who would conceivably be available at 29 that you would prefer over them both?
I take Mirotic. He is the better prospect and his transition to the NBA seems more natural than Bertans who should struggle defensively. He won't be able to come before 2014 but Bertans shouldn't be able to produce before that date because he is so young.
I don't know about college player who Spurs should prefer over them at #29 because I don't follow college basketball.
Many of the teams that want to add a late first round pick believe their best bet is dealing with the San Antonio Spurs. Multiple executives believe that San Antonio wants to move the 29th pick, and teams such as the New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns would love to take it off of their hands. Both teams will wait to see if the player they're targeting is on the board when the Spurs go on the clock before entering a bidding war for the pick.

I see. But with both players being 6"10 and 210 pounds, yet Bertans being a SF and Mirotic being a PF / C, doesn't that suggest that Bertans could have more of a role with the Spurs, in particular as the primary backup SF / ocassional smallball PF? Besides, like you said, Mirotic likely won't be able to cross the pond until several more years, and by the time he does come over, Duncan will likely have retired. Bertans fills an immeiate need for the Spurs (provided he gets minutes) while Mirotic may become what essentially amounts to another Luis Scola-type situation.
In any case, this point might be moot considering one of the 2 will almost certainly be gone by the time we pick (ESPN has Mirotic going to OKC at 24 and us taking Bertans at 29 while DX has Bertans going at 26 and us taking Mirotic at 29), and as Spurs > Pistons pointed out above, the Spurs will probably look to move their pick anyway.
Bertans won't fill an immediate need for Spurs because he is 18 years old and has very little high level experience. Both Mirotic and Bertans are long term project who won't be able to help Spurs before Duncan retire: for Mirotic it's because of his contract and for Bertans it's because he is too young/raw.
If Spurs want to draft a player to help them quickly, they will go after a college senior like JaJuan Johnson, Kyle Singler, Justin Harper, Jimmy Butler or Chandler Parsons.
I would gladly give up the #29 pick to the suns for a 2012 1st rd pick. Not only is that draft much deeper but I think the suns have the chance to be in the lottery again..
Keep the Spurs "model" in mind when thinking about draft picks - a speedy scoring PG, an attacking SG, a defensive (otherwise negligble offensively) SF, shot blocking threat PF who can rebound and score and a defensive center.
We have the PG and SG but lack the other 3 (jury's still out on whether Splitter can be that PF).
It's possible to pick up that SF or C that is needed - that will give enough time to see who Splitter is...
If they can trade this pick for a first in next years draft the do it without hesitation. Even two seconds in next years draft would do.
Aren't we in luxury tax territory? If so, I see the Spurs reverting to drafting a Euro at 29 to stash overseas without salary. The grand experiment of paying a luxury tax for a last shot with the Big 3 didn't work out and I'm not sure Holt is going to try it again.
So Bertans or Mirotic are probable choices if we keep the 29th pick instead of trading it.
So we probably won't get any immediate help in the draft and we have little to trade for an impact player without blowing up the Big 3 so I see a return to the same team as last year.
Good enough for another 50 win season but probably not a championship.

Depends on what they have to give up..Cant imagine the spurs giving up too much cause none of those players seem to be real different makers.
It's impossible to say if Spurs will be in Luxury Tax territory next year under a new CBA. However, Spurs have a lot of money committed to the team. The 29th pick salary should be below $1M so it isn't a big problem but Spurs could be tempted to trade their pick for cash. Not having to pay a salary for the pick and getting $3M in cash could be intriguing.
The most logical to give up would be a lottery protected future first round pick.
We could always give up our 2016 bobcats 2nd rd pick which is top 55 protected from the theo ratliff trade, that may seal the deal..
Late first rounders are going for $3 mil?....I doubt that....maybe one in the teens, but not the 29th pick in this draft.
If a team with a lot of money like Knicks, Blazers or Mavs want an additional first round pick, they won't hesitate to spend $3M on it.
would Motie come in for a work out, just because the Spurs are working on a deal for a higher pick and might get this done????
