The spurs and rockets seem to share workouts with prospects, I dont think its anything more...
I don't recall Spurs and Rockets sharing workouts.
Motiejunas hasn't the time to work out with a lot of teams. Rockets (14th pick), Sixers (16th pick) and Knicks (17th pick) make sense but Spurs with their 29th pick?
It's not unusual for the Spurs to work out or interview prospects outside their general range, just to cover their bases. I could see the Spurs trading up if he falls into the 20–25 range, which may not be unrealistic given his uneven workouts.
Doesn't really matter since both players have been projected well before the 29th pick...
again, Dontas is a Rudoy client. we know he has a close realtionship to the Spurs. he knows that #29 won't bring Dontas to the Spurs. but his connections might help the Spurs to get a higher pick.
I half agree.
Spurs interviewing Kanter or working out Marcus Morris doesn't mean a lot. An interview at the predraft camp isn't time consuming and Marcus Morris should have worked with half the teams.
For Motiejunas, it's different. He will be only one week in the USA and hasn't the time to work out with a lot of teams. The question to ask yourself is: why Motiejunas has agreed to work out for Spurs?
I see 3 explanations possible:
1) Teams aren't interested in seeing Motiejunas working out.
2) Spurs are Motiejunas backup plan. If he start sliding, his wish could be to be drafted by Spurs at #29. As mountainballer said, Rudoy is his agent and he should see Spurs as a good destination for his client.
3) Spurs have a good opportunity to get a pick in the middle of the first round.
I highly doubt 1) is a good explanation so pick your choice between 2) and 3).
This kid is going to get tossed around like a rag doll in the NBA. He makes Bargnani look like Shaq.
I don't know why but I have the feeling that #3 is the most likely possibility. I think something is going to go down on draft day for some odd reason.
Maybe he doesn't have ACLs.
i really can't see that the Blazers at #21 pass on a 7 footer with some talent.
(maybe if Vucevic is still on the board)
and between #21 and #29 there are some teams that would be willing to invest in a late 1nd rounder in a stash project. (Thunder and Bulls for sure)
#18, #19 and #20 are, or could be, on the market.
I think Spurs have a deal in that area.
(cash, swap with the 2012 pick, or maybe something including Blair? Bobcats for example could use his rebounding pretty well)
He seems like a lightweight on the boards in Europe. I always heard that rebounding is one skill that translates upward as you progress to higher levels. I wonder if lack of rebounding does the seme?
Meh.
If he plays away from the basket then no, they will not improve..If he can learn to play in the block a little then yes, there is no reason why they would not improve..
Maybe Bonner to NY for Donatas. NY gets some depth and Spurs get a young guy that might develope. Even if he is a bust Spurs still win by not paying or playing Bonner.
-Benetton Treviso's Donatas Motiejunas is easily the highest usage European prospect in this group at 12.6 possessions per-game. He doesn't stand out in too many areas in terms of efficiency, but has some unique versatility on paper.

• The San Antonio Spurs’ aggressive pursuit of a lottery pick had them trying to get into the early teens, with hopes of using one of those picks to move up even higher in the first round, sources said. San Antonio could get into the late teens – perhaps the Utah Jazz slot at 12 – to draft. The Spurs are enamored with Lithuanian 7-footer Dontas Montejunas, sources said, and could move up to take him in the late lottery picks. Nevertheless, several teams believe San Antonio’s ultimate goal is to parlay that late lottery pick into an even higher spot in the first round. The Spurs are discussing deals involving guard George Hill(notes) to get them anywhere from 11 to 13, and using Tony Parker(notes) in talks to rise up to the Sacramento Kings or Toronto Raptors picks at seven and five, respectively.
Don't get why they'd be so into this guy. DX has him listed at #18 and you don't hear a lot of teams in love with him as it is, so why trade so high to get him?
He makes more sense than Thompson, at least. His stock took a hit when he had that terrible workout a while back, but his track record is still solid; Spurs might think this is an opportunity to take advantage of the slip. Hard to believe he'd fall all the way to Washington, though.
Either Rockets at 14 or Sixers at 16 will grab him.
Does he have any contract issues in Europe?
we better not be after this guy
Was this guy supposed to go like top 5 for awhile this past draft? Maybe it is him the spurs want and they see something we don't. Maybe he tanked his workouts purposely to land with us if the spurs gave him some sort of promise. Who am I kidding no knows what's going on....
