If any of you had bothered to listen to Buford and to a lesser extent Pop, you'd know the Spurs view Duncan/Splitter as their C's and are clearly focused on attaining a shooting PF to replace McDyess. They're not trading for a big, plodding C, who makes a good amount (so forget about Milicic, Pekovic, etc.). Specifically pertaining to Gasol, there's not even a fit trade wise and it's unlikely the Grizzlies don't re-sign him.
Don't expect the Spurs to get bigger period. Most of the realistic options at PF are around McDyess' size. If they acquire a starter, Thomas, Ilyasova and Martin are possibilities. If they fail to acquire a starter and end up settling for a fifth big, Powell, Tolliver and S. Williams are possibilities. If they end up taking a flier on a young player who's somewhere in between, McRoberts and Clark are possibilities.

Someone explain restricted free agency to me. I know Grizzlies can match offers but is there a certain limit other teams can offer him? Read something somewhere about up to 125% of a player's current contract but Boozer was a 35th overall pick and his contract with Utah was 6 years for 70 million --> 11.7 million per year.
If there is no limit I see a scenario where the Spurs could get Gasol. Its a big IF but if there is some amnesty clause thing where teams can get rid of one contract (Jefferson's) and Tim resigned for 10 million a year for say 3 years, Spurs can throw Gasol 8 million if what I'm hearing about a 62 million hard cap is true. Another possibility is a sign and trade with Splitter who makes 3.6 million meaning Gasol could get 11 million+. Wishful thinking of course. I'm sure Gasol could command more money anywhere else as a top 5 center. Comes down to how much he wants to stay in Memphis where his parents work/brother goes to high school and how much he cares about winning. You would think a Spanish star would want to come to San Antonio right?
We can't blame tricky y for this.....the blame in fact lies squarely at the feet of that waste of space Marcus Williams......Marc Gasol was there to be drafted, but instead, we take Williams...in fact, we also took Ian in the 1st round....and never really played him. So twice we missed out on Gasol in the same draft....thank you Williams, thank you Ian, thank you RC, and thank you Pop......but for once, tricky y is innocent.
Ian was drafted in 2005..
Williams was drafted ahead of Gasol in 2007, but Gasol was picked 48th, so just about every team in the NBA missed on him. Including the team that drafted him since the Lakers used two earlier picks on Javaris Crittendon and Sun Yue.
I'm going to do something out of character on the forums, and try to say this nicely.
Echhh... that's going to take too long. The short version is this: a lot of the things you say don't even make sense in the real world. Take some time to read about the trade rules in the NBA. Here are a couple of good references. http://www.nba.com/news/cba_summary_050804.html

Note that those are the trade rules and numbers from the Collective Bargaining Agreement that just expired. There will be a new one, and nobody knows what it will look like - but it definitely won't be any less restrictive than this one. And pay special attention to the Luxury Tax provisions. Once a team hits the threshhold for the Lux Tax, adding an $11M player will cost the team $22M.
I honestly don't know how Man U spends money. But a small market team like the Spurs can't throw money around like that, without losing a bundle every season. I'm not fond of teams who try to outright buy championships, but I really wouldn't like one who did it by taking a loss every year. It's not outside the box, it's outside the realm of sanity.
If it were only that simple.
Seems like you understand it perfectly. Teams that have cap space can offer deals up to the player's maximum salary. Memphis has seven days to match.
Btw, Duncan's contract isn't going to change. I forget the exact details, but the cap guru Larry Coon wrote a piece about why it wouldn't happen. Basically because Tim would have terminate his current contract before the lockout, but couldn't sign a new deal until after the new CBA was signed. So Tim and the team could agree on numbers for a new deal that may not possible under the new CBA. So, Tim's on the books for his 21M next year.
hmm let me break it up to you, many here know me cause my uncles is the ceo of the spurs organization, the profits the spurs make is really high you'll be amazed how much they get in concessions and merchandise not including ticket sales, whens the last time you've seen the spurs stock?? huh.. "none" most of the profits comes international converted from euros to dollars! This spurs team is not small market that what they want you to think! so you'll appreciate what you got such as a "matt bonner" & a Dancing coyote. Theres no need for me to talk about stock here cause it's privacy data that isnt allowed to be said on the web for security reason, so dont come up to me with a nerdy voice saying "heres the rule book read it" cause im gonna just stair while my buddy just look at you and laugh, didnt mean to sound rude but sometimes the truth hurts and many of the times it's better not to be told.
Damn, drunk posts can be hilarious.
Spurs stock? Huh?
For a company to have stock, they have to be registerd w/ the FEC and traded publically via an exchange.
Many teams stocks are keeped in private many are registered on
NASDAQ A145d. There's alot of dirty money that flows around which many private investors wanna keep private from public annuation. There alot of flaws when it comes to sport team organizations.
my bad.....it was Tiago Splitter....I understand why they went SF with Williams....especially after drafting Splitter. Still, I wish they would have drafted Gasol too. Of course, he wasn't so well known at that time, it wasn't until a few months later when he showed off his game with Spain and then again in the 2008 Olympics.
still, had we drafted Marc....the Lakers would have possibly had to part with Odom or Bynum to get Pau, and would have been less formidable indeed.
Also, the idea of a Splitter and Marc Gasol frontline is a sweet, sweet thought. But, we didn't draft him, so oh well.
I am just glad that Marc isnt tearing it up for the Lakers.
Shamsports page for Grizzlies says they are sitting on 37 million this year with Battier and Jaric as the big contracts coming off the books. That's more than enough to resign Gasol who if I'm understanding correctly can make 10-11 million max if the 125% rule is actually correct.
They were at 69 million this year, I'm confused as how 32 million came off the books when all I see is about 16 million gone + everyone makes a little more money this year. I'm guessing the total salary includes luxury tax? Whatever the case, I really see no reason for Gasol to go anywhere else when he can make max money, be part of an upcoming franchise, and be near his parents/little brother. /thread![]()
Sham did not add Randolph's salary to the aggregated salary.
If you check it again, you can see that Randolph and Gay make 30m together. You add Mayo and Conley and you have 42m. More than the 37m Sham is showing.![]()
Forget it. It's somebody's throw-away troll account. The guy spent most of his posts here pimping his Youtube channel, trying to get hits. Then he occasionally posts ridiculous like this. He doesn't usually use the fake-Euro dialect. I should have known better than treat it like an attempt at a serious basketball discussion. Here's another one of his gems:
Ahh I see. Well then I added it up and Memphis is sitting on about 50 million assuming they don't keep Haddadi. I'm assuming they won't match offers for him if they're serious about keeping Gasol.
Edit: Just never mind. Lets just say no way RJ is traded by Thursday + Tim opts out.
