He's just doing what wild animals do when they feel threatened - the "fight or flight" response has kicked in. Irritatingly, he only has a "fight" response, but even that is somewhat admirable in a way. Remember Mark Madsen of the LA Lakers? That guy never gave up and fought till the end, no matter how bitter and even though he sucked balls.

It needs to be someone that is willing to adapt to players, hungry, and not convinced that he is too good to reflect on his own poor coaching and strategies.

While Pop was busy playing footsie with Bonner on the bench and letting his best player get injured in the last meaningless game of the season, 2nd year head coach Lionel Hollins was tanking games so he could face off against Pop's team, knowing he could thoroughly dominate the X's & O's game, which he proceeded to do with impunity.

I really can't think of a more embarrassing situation for a supposed "HOF" coach.

But, if you watch any of the Finals between the Celtics and the Lakers - often, the game comes down to coaching. And, regardless of which team wins the game, you can easily say that the losing coach got outcoached.

Both of them HOF coaches in their own right.

So, I will concede that I think Pop could've guarded Ginobili (all his starters really) for the playoffs, he wasn't OUTCOACHED, his players were outplayed. The playoffs are about matchups and Memphis felt their frontcourt matched up better against ours. They were right. Notice, that when they played OKC, their frontcourt didn't fair so better against younger, more athletic defenders.

So, Pop isn't perfect but it doesn't mean he always gets outcoached.
