Slow down sheepie. Those crack vs powder laws, which are a joke and do end up discriminating against mostly black people but people of all races, was instigated in large part by Black people who were sick of their neighborhoods being overun starting in the early 80s.

They aren't going to write a law for each specific situation. It is still breaking the same law.

It doesn't appear that Texas has a separate law for "crack" vs. regular cocaine (I could be wrong).
Sentences are based on the following grouping of drugs. No crack.
1. Cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, GHB, ketamine, oxycodone and hydrocodone.
1A. LSD
2. Ecstasy (MMDA), PCP and mescaline.
3. Valium, Xanax and Ritalin.
4. Compounds containing Dionine, Motofen, Buprenorphine or Pryovalerone

i don't think race played much of a factor in this case. i think it had more to do w/ the fact that she was a cute girl. if a black girl happened to be cute and the cirumstances surrounding the case were exactly the same i think she gets the same charges.
anyway,
reading some of the comments from a couple of the jury members, i don't think they knew that you dont need physical evidence to charge someone, just enough cir stantial evidence. and there was plenty of that. there's aabout a 5% chance Casey didn't do it, and for whatever reason the jury decided to only consider the 5% and not the 95% chance that she did.
i thought the prosecuters did an average job in their closing argument though and that played a huge role, along with the dumb clueless jury.
benefit of the doubt is bull , thats just like sugarcoating persuading the jurors, when the plaintiff could just use benefit of the doubt as a defence also. Twisting words and putting them back into their mouths...
this case was either taking its toll on the jurors, that they have had enough and just wanted to round up the case and go back to their daily lives...
