He was still a force. He had won the MVP 4 years earlier, and the Finals MVP just 2 years ago. The Lakers reached the Finals that year too with him as their best player.
Also people love to rag on Yao but he was an extremely skilled for a man his size. I always enjoyed watching him play tbh. I dont think we'll ever see another player like him. Most abnormally large s arent very coordinated or mobile, Yao was. Add to it the shooting touch he had which was better than most bigmen in the league and that made him even more unique.
