USA
what a monumental choke job.
congrats Japan, that sawa chick is badass. Was an epic game
USA
what a monumental choke job.
this game was boring. Japan is the most boring team I've seen in a while, they pretty much put you to sleep.
It might be because i'm english but I have to disagree.
^Fan of soccer
^Not a fan of soccer
The US hates soccer. http://www.espnmediazone3.com/us/201...-soccer-match/
You know the Olympics gets boffo ratings too, does that mean the US loves air rifle shooting?
When air rifle shooting gets those ratings, yes.
They tuned in only because of the US hot run and it being the World Cup. Thats now over, the majority in the US goes back to not caring about soccer.
pretty much the same thing happens with olympics, NBA and any other major sport.![]()
WPS seeing record ticket sales after the WWC. MLS having a huge season with a huge increase. The Gold Cup final etc etc etc.
The evidence points to you being wrong. Obviously not everyone will continue to watch but the fact is more and more people care about soccer each year. Its already bigger than the NHL in this country and pretty soon MLB then the NBA. Probably will never catch the NFL though.
Unless they make the sport more TV (sponsor) friendly, soccer will still have trouble gaining on the big three sports.
this makes no sense. change the sport to accomodate commercials?
in the rest of the world that sport makes tons of money for sponsors.
I'd watch WPS if it were on ESPN2/FOX.
Not true at all. As hater said, the sport makes a ton of money through television as is. The 94 cup was broadcast with commercials and that was a ing disaster if I ever saw one. The television broadcasts are doing fine and are already increading. ESPN is showing more soccer on its networks now and that will simply increase as the European leagues come back into season this fall.
I wonder if the MLS already has a larger percentage of its games nationally broadcast than the NBA. That would not surprise me at all. Assuming 10-14 games per week for the MLS and at least 4 of those are national games on a weekly basis then its fair to say that might be the case.
there is no way in that soccer ever gains on football, basketball or even baseball.
I've said all along: "get rid of the goalie position and then I might watch."
0-0 scores suck ass.
^ unfortunately, this is the opinion of too many Americans who just don't understand the game. While 0-0 matches can be epic fests, they can also be well played standoffs between top-notch sides. It's cool though, I'm done trying to convert people.
The beautiful game is slowly but surely doing a solid job of converting (American) peeps on it's own
and then the match ends in stupid penalty kicks.
I've heard this ever since I was kid playing soccer in the late 70s when Pele was the big .The beautiful game is slowly but surely doing a solid job of converting (American) peeps on it's own
Probably hear it for the next 50+ years as well.
Ignorance is bliss I guess.
the score was 0-0 so the game must of sucked

while I agree soccer can be boring as . Especiallly if you don't care of or don't know the teams.
The typical american homer needs to wake up and realize that Football and Baseball as sports are not much better. Nobody outside USA cares about 400 pound refrigerators wearing tights and banging their heads together. And the delays between the plays is a complete waste of time. I don't think I need to mention about baseball which is the most boring sport in the history of the Milky Way galaxy and beyond.
So IMO any sport can be extremely boring if you don't care about the teams. NFL + MLB are complete fests too given those conditions.
you can feel free to explain how a match that ends in a 0-0 tie can be exciting.
chances are that your explanation, like all others I've ever heard, will suck.![]()
Soccer is still viewed as a non American sport that other countries play.
There will be some interest when the national team plays in World Cups but it soon fades and that MLS is a joke as compared to the big three national sports.
It will never catch the American sports with the long tradition, MLB, NFL and NBA.
could you please explain how a 4 hour baseball game that ends up 4-0 is exciting?![]()
or
a 3 hour football game that ends up 41-21?
thanks
Some fo those game are great defensive games with great goalie saves. But for the most part those games have long boring stretches of play.
Japan especially in the first half played very boring, kicking the ball backwards and just caring about holding possesion playing defense and not pushing forward for the most part. The US could not put the ball in the goal or else they win easily. The game should have been over by halftime.
