Horrible group to ask this to, tbh...like they said earlier. You might catch one or two people giving you an honest answer, the rest are going to act like internet badasses when honestly, they would probably duck and hide when someone got in their faces.

I am actually exactly the same online as I am in the real world. I know who I am. I am quite happy with it too. Everyone has issues and such that they deal with in the real world, but I don't run from them by pretending to be something I am not just to feel better about myself. In the end, I would only be kidding myself and that would only add to the pressures of reality, because no matter how many people believe that I am like my online persona, it is still me when I look in the mirror. What I would see in that mirror is a liar and fake. Someone who is upset and angry with themselves because no matter how hard they try, they can never be who they are online.

I am very secure with who I am. I actually have posted real pictures of myself (symple19 likes to help with that. LOl!), and my wife on here. If people dog me, I don't really take it seriously. That doesn't matter to me. All that matters to me is MY HAPPINESS. I don't need people to like me to be happy. I don't need to bring other people down to feel better either. I just let them do that to themselves.

I completely understand what you are talking about in the OP. Growing up is tough for people to do. It usually happens when the person finally gets sick of letting life kick their ass, and decides to actually take control of their own life and stop letting others influence it. Then they will understand all the wrong decisions they made, and how much they have been holding themselves back. Then when they look in the mirror, they will know who they really are.

Growing up happens in stages. I don't think you ever get there. First you believe it's silly to act silly, then you believe it's not, then you believe it is, then it's not, then you don't care.

People are all basically the same. They all repeat what they've heard and some of us just latch on to things and don't let go. Others keep upgrading their sayings. It's all meaningless either way.

There's no "time" to grow up. It just happens (for most). Eventually priorities change and the stupid you thought was the world when you were younger isn't so important anymore and your overall perspective changes. I don't necessarily think some of the things you mentioned means those people haven't grown up though. Responsibility and taking care of it are the hallmarks of maturity - not whether or not you say "dog".

I do find I'm more grouchy now toward the I associate with stupid teenagers, though. If I'm riding the train home and some asshole is listening to music out loud without headphones or when I see some stupid kid with pants down below his ass I just SMH.

I'll agree that just saying dog does not mean that they are completely immature but it's just the way they say it. Plus 30 something year old guys with faux hawks just looks ridiculous in this setting.
One guy here has a "nice" car, tatts on his neck, a fauxhawk, and always wears jordans and polo. He is married with 3 kids and his wife drives a beat up car and they live at her parents house.
It's just funny to me how these guys still think they are in high school or something.

I think it's more about growing than growing up. The world, our surroundings, our needs change at varying speeds and we have to change with them. Not changing would leave us "stuck" in a past mindset that is counterproductive to our existence. There's not a specific time to do it, it's a constant process.

Do you work at some kind of call center? When I worked at West in HS there were a lot of people the way you describe. The only reason they dressed "professionaly" is because they had to.

That's the thing, if I worked in a call center I would be ok with it. The thing is I work on a pretty big campus with multiple buildings/departments. It is up to the senior management in your area to decide on the dress code. For instance, in my area the senior management team is fine with us wearing jeans and a t-shirts but in some of the other groups that make considerably less than us they have to wear slacks and button up shirts. It's backwards but oh well.
Since we don't deal with customers directly and do a lot of the nerd work they let us come in to work casual. The other group in my building answers calls all day but they don't actually see the customers and they still have to dress in business attire. Plus they do all the grunt work and get paid crap for it.

I just don't understand these people who act and dress ghetto at work but still expect to be taken seriously. They want to get paid but they talk like idiots.
