It's what I use and it's pretty bad ass. Never had an issue and can handle a load.
The one I have now frequently disconnects and resets, I get drops during wireless youtube streams, etc. Basically it sucks.
I can get a "free" motorola modem from Time Warner, but would still have to get a wireless router. But I have read reviews about it that it also has drops that can be frequent.
Can someone suggest to me a good modem/wireless router (preferrably one unit) that is dependable and won't ing drop my internet connection when I'm wireless trying to youtube or netflix something?
Thanks.

Wow, that is a lot of very good reviews... Wish I had known about this a couple months ago when I re-recommended a Linksys 54 router...
Cisco Lynksys 400WRT is what I use. I've never had to reset it in the 2+ years I've had it. Time Warner wasn't the issue when I was getting dropped 5 times a day on average. It was my router.
What router do you have now? Have you ever attempted to upgrade its firmware? I know sometimes stock firmware you get can be complete trash.
any Cisco Lynksys router. I've had one for 3 years that has worked great with 3 different modems (while surviving two different moves).
I'll have to disagree with DoK on this one. Maybe you lucked out. But since Cisco bought Linksys, the quality has gone down tremendously. Unfortunately, so has the quality of the compe ion.
I actually have an Apple Airport Extreme, and it's very stable and works very well. The only problem is that the options on it are extremely dumbed down and lacking. Thus I can't really recommend.
must have. I have to reset it maybe once every 3 months. It also has something to do with the fact my cable/internet company has really good service.
I have a little ass Trendnet
TEW-432BRP that is amazing. When I have the range extender on, it could cover a full good sized front and backyard. It's a G router so you might want to go with an N router, but I've had it for about 4 years and it does such a tremendous job I have really thought about replacing it, even though I would like to upgrade to an N router.
It's an old one that can be had for extremely cheap if you wanted, but I'd recommend going with a newer model of course. But I guess Trendnet does a good job as I have no complaints.
I've been recommended a lynksys one as well...
I had a cisco linksys router/modem, one of the ones that are blue/black with a little antenna on the back. It seriously resets like 40000 times a day now. Internet only is practical when I directly connect.
I ended up ordering the 1st router someone suggested on amazon. Hope I'm happy with it.
dude your problem may be your reverse signal level from the modem however a router will drop your connection on it own. If your reverse gets too high you'll lose connection. Stay away from the surfboards. oh and also if your noise floor is screwed up your going to lose connection
Apparently (according to so-called experts) my router has started dropping sites on occasion. Since I can still access some, and not others, I blamed Comcast. They said it must be either my router, or the cable modem. Never used to happen until about the last 4 months. Had the same router for years, never a dropout till recently. now it happens like clockwork, about 11 AM... Somehow, I don't suspect the router...
May be your IP address renewing. More than likely it's Comcast, but some routers are noticeably slow to renew the IP addresses it assigns to computers attached to it. That was my biggest problem with my Buffalo router, so I assigned static IPs to all my regular computers and network printer.
could be a headend problem with comcast. I'd get a technican out there to check the signal around the time it happens. This is how we find out problems from the plant sometimes.
you could also go into the router settings and change it to never renew
True. Having the list of static IPs makes it easier for me to configure remote access.
It's not the signal. This much I am certain of. The web sites I was on when it drops is still available. I can go to any page, and yes, I know it's not from my history. Other addresses are blocked somehow. Something is filtering out addresses.
Could be a DNS problem. You can run a traceroute from your computer and see where it's getting stuck. On Windows, from the command line:
tracert <host>
If it can't resolve the host, look at a DNS issue.
If it can resolve the host but it gets stuck at the first hop (your router), it could be either the router or your connection to the headend.
If you get a few hops then it dies it can simply be an issue with a switch on net.
We've seen quite a few times Verizon mucking with a switch that would only allow us to connect to even IP addresses and not odd IP addresses (not funny at all), until they fixed it.
I've had a basic Cisco Linksys WRT54G for the past 3 years and have had hardly any issues with it. I've had to powercycle it maybe 5 times in that span, and that was usually the ISPs/modems fault.
maybe your wife is limiting your porn intake
but I would try hard wiring from you modem and bypass the router to see if it still does it.
