Kidd? He has lost his movement a bit but this playoff he still showed he had it

    Deron?

    I put Cp3 above Rondo.

    Lowry, Holiday?

Kidd is not the best defensive point guard. Props for shutting down Kobe, though.

I'd say the best is Rondo or Paul.

Kidd is not the best when it comes to defending the point guards (although against Westbrook he looked good), he is at its best defending the SG or even SF. Ask Lebron...

One on One defense Cp3 is better than Rondo.

Rondo is the typical long arm gambling defensive player.

I think a legit argument could be made that Kidd is the best defensive player in the league that plays the PG position, but he is not the best in the league at actually defending PGs. He struggles against super quick ones (but then again, everyone in the league does, I have yet to see someone who can individually legitimately give guys like Parker, CP3, and Rose fits). But when it comes to team defense, and switching onto bigger guys, he is still as good as it gets.

    In no particular order:
    Rondo, Kidd, Billups.
After that, it is bench guys that don't get credit because they are defensive PG specialists who are not particularly good at doing PG things...

Speaks to the low quality of 'starting' PG defenders...

Deron would be the only other start I can think of...

I think generally, defense is not a strength of many players at all at the PG position. Not just now, but through NBA history.

Deron has a lot of speed considering how strong he is, puts up a good defensive effort.

Which is why I have always been a Kidd fan... And why I like Billups in that list, because while he is no 'great defender of the PG position', he sure had his defensive moments, and still plays defense against larger SGs...

really? Tony had 20/5 and got to the rim at will on Conley...he missed a lot of chip shots too. Conley had a solid 16/6 but definitely didn't give him any fits. He played well enough to win...though I guess by some peoples definition thats championship level

That series was lost in the paint.

Even if he did it had no bearing on the outcome of the series, I'm actually in your boat with my views on point guards.

True, Conley vs. Parker had no bearing on it, Parker trying to do too much did, but I agree that had nothing to do with Conley.

Billups is a pylon on defense. He hasn't been a good defender in like 6 years. And even then, he was overrated.

I'd probably say Westbrook has the physical make-up to be a top PG defender, but I really didn't watch that many Thunder games until the playoffs and I didn't really sit and watch how well he defended when I did watch those playoff games. Rondo has some really quick hands and really long arms to do a lot of different things defensively. Not convinced he's an all around great individual defender because I do think bigger and stronger guards can still take advantage of his slight build and lack of bulk.

I always thought Kirk Hinrich was one of the better PG defenders because he had quickness and decent athleticism but was also smart and physical when he defended. He has probably lost a step now that he's older. Delonte West is a good PG defender. Baron Davis back in the day was really good too when he wanted to defend.
