Oh how idiotic.
WWII helped bring us out of a troubled economy because it put US workers to work. We now get the bulk of our steel and technology from other countries, so preparing for a war against aliens, would only stimulate other countries.

But think about the Phasers factories we could build, and the jobs created by Klingon translators!
Where would they be built? Malaysia and Korea? maybe China and India?
I don't know that trekkies are a worldwide phenomenon at all.
