Doesn't random drops + real money = gambling?

Or will there be no random drops?

Jesus, xellos. You make my brain hurt

Okay, I guess I wasn't specific enough. You won't make A SIGNIFICANT amount of money once the farmers hit the game, unless you have a sizable operation going on.

As for the only online stuff, I'll have a legit copy, and an "acquired" copy on my laptop so I can play whenever the I want. You're re ed if you think the DRM is more for the auction house than it is for piracy.

And of course it'll get cracked anyway

As far as I know there will be random drops, difference is, you know what you'll be spending money on in the auction house before you complete the transaction

It's not like paying real money and having a random item come up, although I would guess that the gambling vendor will make a return (paid for with in game-gold only) like in D2

Blizzard could have gone the CIV V route and had a mod-mode and a normal mode. Not difficult with an 8 billion year development cycle

Im excited about the auction house myself. I hated in D2 that I would find a really ing awesome item that was meant for another character and didnt want to waste the time building that type of class up to use it or spending hours on chat negotiating.

Find an item and post it for real money or in-game gold.... Brilliant. The game will pay for itself eventually. Sure, most people are not going to make big bucks on it, but , I'll take $0.50 or $1 here and there deposited into my paypal account!

I swear.... between me and my brother, we will make enough cash to at least pay for our gas every month if not more.

Not to sure if they should allow character sales though.

Here's how I cir vented that in D2. when I would play LAN games with my friends, we would zip all our characters onto each other's machines before a session. Then, if one character had a weapon I wanted to use with another class instead, my buddy would jump in with that particular build, pick up the item and jump back out. Then, zip it back over to my machine, and presto!

We built sets and ac ulated runes/gems/gold/weapons/armor that way. It sounds like a lot of trouble but it wasn't too bad. Better yet, we had the satisfaction of actually having found the item/weapon.

I'm glad some people are stoked on the auction house, but I'll never use it. Just not how I like to play diablo

lol, we also had dump characters which we just created to store particular items, just in case we may need them on another class or playthrough

some of those gold (colored) items were ridiculous and we didn't want to lose them forever. so, jump to town, log out, log back in with a dump character, grab the item, jump out, and finally jump back in with the normal build and keep playing

My work around was just saving my character, then going into the character file, saving it, then have a bank character join on a LAN, then drop items/cash, have bank character pick it all up, delete main character file, replace with old copy, rinse and repeat. Multiple items and a load of cash.

I would just use Hero editor and had a huge database of items saved to file that I could import on the fly....

The difference now is that you will have to be online all the time.... There is no LAN play... There will be no "cir venting" the system.

All characters are stored server-side, including single player characters from what I understand.

Also, from what I understand, you can play your character in a single player game, then on a whim, decide to jump onto battle.net with that same character and play online with it. Battle.Net will supposedly also keep track of your progress and achievements weather you are playing single player or online.

If thats trully the case, its gonna be awesome to have just 1 character per class and be able to seemlessly jump between single and multi player.

Gamescom 2011: Blizzard Announces New Inferno Mode in Diablo III

    http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/diablo-iii/1188836p1.html

Diablo III features a level cap of 60, and players that hit it will open up an all-new difficulty level that makes look like a resort. It's called Inferno, it features enemies level 61 and above, and Blizzard describes it as the most difficult Diablo challenge yet.

Speaking with Kotaku at Gamescom, Blizzard revealed Inferno and went in-depth on the types of badass enemies players will face. Not only will foes be a minimum of level 61 to your maxed-out level 60, they will have increased health, do more damage, have stronger damage resistance, be more aggressive, and have a larger, more powerful range of powers and abilities.

While surviving Inferno will be a huge challenge, Blizzard is providing ample rewards for those who do. Defeated enemies will drop highly coveted items more often (digital treasure that could turn into real-world treasure thanks to Diablo III's new auction house), and Inferno will include exclusive armor, weapons, and runes that offer new abilities.

Blizzard added that these Inferno-exclusive items will be visually distinct, identifying anyone wearing/using them as elite (or willing to pay for elite items).

Diablo III is in development for Windows PCs and Mac OS. The game's release date remains TBA.

I've never played D1 or D2, probably the only major game series I can think of that I've never even touched. No reason to get into them now, I'll just start with D3.

I played Diablo 2 and never understood why everybody was so exited about it. It was a seemingly never-ending button smasher.

Pretty much. I have played "Diablo clones", especially an Quest (supposedly one of the best of that group). Fun game, but hopefully D3 makes some innovation on that formula.

I used to play hardcore with all those assholes on top of the leaderboards. They played non stop to keep their place and I played with them for loot but eventually it did get boring

I don't like the compe ion based loot either, however, basing the loot solely on who did the most damage isn't fair to those who build thier characters as support types. You should have to take into account, time enemies were controlled, amount healed, damage done, buff durations, and all sorts of things. I think it could be quite difficult to really get a fair judgement on who gets the loot. I know this because I hated getting the short end of the stick for healing or tanking (Warhammer Online) when there is no way that the battle would have been won had I not had my character participating. No tank = wipe. No heals = wipe.

I think they should just give everybody loot for participating and not rank it on placement.

So yea god damn Diablo 3 got delayed to the first quarter of 2012.

Blizzard is notorious for delaying games until they're refined but to me this is more about keeping WOW subscribers; Diablo 3 is going to cannibalize a lot of their own users.

Hopefully its not the god damn console version thats delaying the game....although using a controller for a hack and slash game seems like a good idea.
