I swear the all time high was 111 in September of 2000.

Same website, two different temps. Go figure.
Using the official San Antonio temperature taken at the airport (the city itself is almost always a couple of degrees hotter)
http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/KSAT.html
2 PM (CST): 109.0 degrees (42.8 celsius)
The previous official high was 108 in 1986

LOL @ there still being 3 hours or so for the temperature to climb even higher.

Hmm... I guess one can never trust the ty Express News. Perhaps that 111 temperature was from downtown or somewhere in the inner city and not the official airport reading. The Weather Channel is reporting 110 now; I'm not sure where they record from though.
I remember that day in 2000. The heat index was unreal and they cancelled all school practices.
Never mind. That 111 measure was also taken at the airport. LOL @ me ever believing anything printed in the ridiculously incompetent Express News.

he meant white people schools closed practice
From Yahoo/The Weather Channel the record high was 113 on 5 September 2000. Record high for any August is 104 on 13 Aug 2000. I wonder if anyone really knows?Either way, it's freaking HOT out there!!

You sure it was that afternoon?
white peoples time is different
damn it's not even that hot out in AZ
That was the day it hit 111 on the official reading on the white-boy side of town.
hit 112 here in austin today. still sitting @ 109 right now
Official records are recorded at the airport for a city. Obviuosly in a city the size of San Antonio there will be different temps for different places.
I remember that day in 2000. I played basketball in that heat. It really wasn't too bad because there was no humidity.
Sucks for San Antonio though.
I remember that day in 2000. I played basketball in that heat while wearing a weight vest, without drinking any water, nor wearing suncreen. It really wasn't too bad because I'm a MAN.
Ran two miles @ 5:30 in Austin today. Pretty intense but it was breezy and not too humid. I've run in worse.
The 108 temp from 1986 was the all-time record for August at the airport.
LOL @ the edit by the Express News. Too bad the sportswriters don't correct their articles too.
LOL @ it already being 92 there and its only 10am. You guys are ed.
You mean the Wagner HS that didn't exist named after the Karen Wagner that died on 9/11 who naturally was alive in 2000? Just wondering...
Was 105º at 11am when I drove through San Marcos yesterday... that's insane
The 112º oh crap mentioned in Austin tied the all-time record
9% or something crazy low like that.
My brother in Wyoming took a picture of the thermometer outside his shop the other day at 45 degrees. Seriously thinking about taking the boys up there for a week or something.
I remember it too. I was working as a student aid in my high school's attendance office, back when we had to pick up the roll lists class by class. I think that was the last year they used that system before going to an online system. Anyways I drew the short straw and had to head out to the trailers on the ass end of campus. I've lived in Texas my whole life and I was still stunned at how that heat felt. It was like when you open up an oven door and you feel that rush of hot air hit your eyeballs.
I was thinking more like when you get into a hot car. It envelops you and the air is so hot it's almost hard to breathe it in.
What happened to your "Thawts" column?
Meanwhile, I got this email from my mother in Michigan this morning:
Hi,
It's 48 degrees here this morning and your dad had to throw a jacket on when he took the dogs out. Looks like you guys are going to boil down there today. Maybe you could try the old "egg on the sidewalk" trick to entertain the kids.
The mean old witch![]()
