So, yesterday I changed out my GPU and when I restarted the computer after installing drivers there was no internet connection. The computer is not recognizing the LAN controller on my mobo. I'm positive that it's a driver issue but the LAN driver on the MSI installation disc doesn't have LAN highlighted, only VGA, USB 3, and Audio drivers. When I open the disc up and manually find the Realtek drivers it loads and says that It's not the right one. I've tried resetting the MoBo, purging the old drivers, reinstalling, doing this with both the GPU in and out, asking it pretty please, and even leaving the RAM, CMOS chip, and PSU unplugged all night. Nothing.

I'm trying to download the latest drivers onto a USB stick on my laptop as we speak but just wanted to see if anybody knows what I should do.

Are you sure you took the battery out of the mobo when you cleared CMOS? Also, have you tried resetting your modem and router?

    Also, wrong forum.

A USB Ethernet adapter is pretty cheap. Get you by until you figure out the other issue.

Turn it on from the BIOS screen.

Definitely would try to toggle the switch even if it is on auto-detect....otherwise you probably got a defective mother-board...... buy a cheap LAN card...they practically give them away on e-bay

fwiw I was never able to figure out exactly what happened. From onlline research I found others who had a problem with their LAN controller going into deep sleep mode and needing the MoBo to be reset for it to wake up. After resetting it about 5 times and nothing I figured that wasn't gonna help. BIOS confirmed that onboard LAN was enabled, CMD line ipconfig confirmed that no controller was detected.

Realtek's own drivers didn't even recognize the controller, so at that point I was SOL. Ended up taking an old 10/100 card from a piece of computer piece "art" I made a while ago. Was surprised it still worked considering it was separated from the expansion slot cover and was screwed tightly to an old stick of DDR ram.

7 detected new LAN card instantly and everything was up and running.

PS- Anybody looking to buy a used MoBo?

You're supposed to blame it on the VRWC at this point.

    Or blame Bush...

Remember, in this forum, it's always Bush's fault.

    It's always Bush's fault if you're a D and it's always Obama's fault if you're an R.

No introspection to be had here.
