Carl Lewis was eliminated from eligibility, and no longer able to run as a Democratic for the 8th Legislative District in the New Jersey Senate. I was unable to find out how long he lived in Jew Jersey, but believe it longer the the 4 year requirement. The problem is, he also has a residence in California, and was voting in those elections. It wasn't till this year that he registered to vote in NJ. He physically resided in NJ, but voted in CA... Typical democrat if you ask me.

Well there ever be a day that you can stick with a topic, and not start personal attacks for no good reason?

Haven't heard anything about it. Just got home from work.

This is the coverage in the local newspaper:

I like Lewis, don't know diddly about his political positions, but I do find it disturbing that he maintained a primary residence in NJ, and voted by absentee ballot in California. Seems to me you should only vote where your primary residence is.

I wonder if this opened a can of worms for him. Will either CA or NJ have ground for tax evasion?

Looks like he owns residences in both states and has been actually living in NJ since 2007.
Mailing in those Cali votes seem to be what did him in.
    I'm glad he's not appealing.

He really didn't have much of a chance anyways. That part of the state is as red as it comes.

Well, from what I read, apparently he's been paying income taxes in Cali and not in Jersey.

Appealing this close would make him look like a loser. I have no idea the black and NJ law for residency requirements. I assume they did get the ruling right for the voting reason. Seems if he was truly interested in NJ politics, he should have register when he moved, and voted there rather than CA.

Still... I wonder the tax issue between two states. If residency wise, he paid NJ taxes, but claimed residency in CA for voting purposes, what would CA do to him?

    LOL...

OK, scratch may last, but now will NJ hold him liable for taxes now that he registered there?

I think what made this story interesting is that the exact same panel of judges ruled 8 days ago 2-1 that he should be in the ballot.

I think today's decision is the right decision.

And no, I don't think appealing will make him look like a loser, but it will definitely make red team cheerleaders get their panties in a bunch.

So I'm glad he's not appealing.

Probably. And stop paying in Cali, I would guess.

I can see how residency would be a sticky topic for personalities like him who have properties on both states and might travel all year round.

But, this is over. He can run the next election, I guess.

A gay, black, neophyte politician getting elected in NJ? That requires making a "world-record long jump" of self-delusion.
