Rashad had to be pretty intimidated by what he saw tonight. Jones throws on so many levels. His only real shot is to land a lucky punch or hope Jones makes a huge mistake and loses his balance.
Hope no one expected anything different than what they saw. I love Page - dude is a great fighter and has personality - but Jones is too good. Rashad. I can't wait to see Jones punk his ass.

I'd actually beg to differ about the intimidation factor. Rampage looked the same as he did for the last few fights, with the exception of round 3. That was a classic le fight round IMO. But even that was spent mostly getting his ass kicked - point being, he's not a motivated Rashad. I'm not saying I'd bet on Rashad, but I don't think he's scared because Jones definately showed he can get hit when he gets confused about the opponents attack strategy - even tho Rampage only succeeded in mixing it up once because he only tried once. Also, Jones tries to do to much sometimes and ends up slipping, and you know Rashad will pull the trigger faster than Rampage.
At this point, it's clear that only Rashad can pose a threat to Jones. Machida, Davis, and everyone else in the division is only going to get split open by elbows or have their knees kicked in.
God Damn Jones is the mother- ing truth.. I thought Page would do better but Jones is just too long and athletic for most fighters. He is getting better with every fight.. Amazing performance..
Page fought fine and is a warrior Jones is just too hard to figure out.. Shad is listed at 5'11 but really only 5'10 IMO. He will be giving up the same reach as Page did. Shad is faster than Page but he will have the same problem closing that distance. Shad is gonna get his ass kicked just as bad.. If Jones is hurt he'll have to wait even longer though LOL..![]()
Shad is not a better fighter than Page. He barely beat Page when Page was rusty as . Page had Shad hurt badly in round 3 and almost out.. Shad is not getting to Jones. Page has better stand up than Shad and great TDD and he got nothing done.. Shad is faster but not more technical.. The same thing will happen to Shad..
Rashad is faster and more technical and more versatile than Rampage. Page is stronger, but he's not the better MMA fighter...only way to beat Jones is being an MMA fighter because Jones is so well-rounded and big. Probably no one will come close or even make it to a decision loss w/ Jones at LHW, but Rashad is the best fight for him at 205.
Hope we get to see Rampage vs Shogun/Hendo loser in Japan, that'd be sweet.
How is Shad more versatile than Page? Shad's stand up is jab jab jab right hand, jab jab jab right hand.. Almost never throws kicks outside a KO over some fat ass scrub years ago.. He shoots for the occasional double and that will get him nowhere VS Jones.. He is not more technical at all. He wings his punches, never submits anyone, has cardio issues.. He's gonna get in killed..
Here is that awesome sweep during the prelims

Yeah. I can't see Rashad doing very well against Jones. Really, what area can he outperform Jones in? He's going to HAVE to take it to the floor, and to do that he's going to have to get into prime striking range for Jones, who looks much much faster than Shad is. Every time he tries to shoot, he's taking a risk of catching a knee or a shot to the face.
Given how much trouble Rampage gave Rashad, I can't see Rashad beating Jones barring a lucky shot.
soooo, starting the fight in extremely obnoxious fashion, suddenly standing in front of Page with his arms by his side late in the fight then later doin an Anderson Silva type bob and weave when Page wasn't even throwing anything, and then a good ole unnecessary over the head flip of Page's legs to end round 3.
Before you try to marginalize all of this just know that I said the narcissistic baggery would come in his next 3 victories or so. Is he even close to that yet? Of course not. But the signs of that slippery slope are obvious
now go ahead and bring the rage for me interrupting yalls fest
I'll agree on the end of round 3, but on the other things, I see more and more fighters having their hands at their sides, trying to be more unorthodox (trying to land punches at various angles). Plus he wasn't taunting Rampage saying "come on hit me" or anything like that. Anderson Silva isn't the 1st fighter to introduce the bob and weave, he is also not the first fighter to do the front kick. Would you rather Bones just keep his head still during a fight?
I was worried about the whole Spider like crawl at the beginning of the fight, but he said (at the presser) he was trying some technique he had learned.
You have to realize that Jones is still learning (only 24) always adding new things to his game; I loved that he attempted that flying armbar (saw him do that in the practice session video on Friday).
He isn't disrespectful to his opponents (he responds to his opponents comments). He trains hard and is with a good camp that will keep him grounded.
And as you could see after the fight, much respect between Bones and Rampage.
Also a " y young champion" would have invited Steven Seagal to his locker room prior to his fight....

you missed my point. The I'm pretty sure it was in the middle of the 3rd when he started doing the unnecessary bob and weave and he was doing it at a time when Page wasn't even throwing anything. WHY?
and once again, I'm definitely not saying he's a narcissistic asshole who's disrespectful to his opponents...I'm saying that'll come later in his career
Also I missed it during the fight live, but after rewatching, after the incident at the end of the 3rd round; Bones gave Rampage a head nod then they touched gloves to start the 4th; so it wasn't as bad as it looked.
And to everything else, I guess we will just have to wait and see how Bones develops; I just don't see him going to the "dark side".
So you don't like Jones
Oh well..
That's exactly why he dropped his hands. It gave him better vision and allowed to attack Page from different angles. He knew Page wasn't going to initiate, all Bones had to do was connect and then evade Rampage's attempt at a counter. Simple. I fail to see how a fighting mechanic that gives a fighter a different look is suddenly " y". Let's be real here. That fight was over at the end of the 2nd or midway through the 3rd round with the exception of Bones making a huge mistake and getting clocked. Page stopped initiating contact completely. Bones was doing what he felt gave him the best chance to win the fight. You think he's y when the first thing he does if Page gets in is (admitted by Bones in the presser) run away? Sounds like someone who's dominated his opponent yet still respects his power to me.
Well sure, if you want to nitpick everything he does in the ring I'm sure you'll end up perceiving him as narcissistic. Simple confirmation bias.and once again, I'm definitely not saying he's a narcissistic asshole who's disrespectful to his opponents...I'm saying that'll come later in his career
I tend to agree. That doesnt take away from the fact he is a damn good fighter, but the baggery is apparent.
Its a problem with almost all athletes who succeed on that level. You have to have a supreme level of confidence to pull this off and be successful so obviously they are also very susceptible to becoming arrogant bags.
Just makes you appreciate humble fighers all that much more.
I've been reading a lot of people online having issues with Bones and his side kicks to the knees of opponents. What are your guys opinions on this?
Do you think Bones is doing anything wrong even though it isn't illegal? or should that type of strike be banned from MMA?
If the ref says it's not illegal
It's all good..
At the top of the game there are basically ZERO humble fighters.. GSP is pretty humble in public but i am sure way more arrogant privately. Jones is very arrogant but so is Anderson and Brock, and BJ Penn and Rashad and o and Chuck and Rampage etc..
Frankie Edgar is pretty humble but you see what i mean..
Different sports but look at Tim Duncan last season vs the Heat, yelling "Game Over"...
so he waits till the 3rd round to initiate this amazing strategy? I agree the fight was over early and that's why Bones was feeling comfortable enough to try to add a "cool" factor to his performance
Dropping the hands is not a sign of arrogance, IMO. Its a tatic to goad your opponent into striking. It has been that way for a LONG ass time.
