...except when it comes to abortion!

    Rick Perry signs anti-abortion pledge

Anti-abortion activists cheered news today that Texas Gov. Rick Perry had signed a sweeping pledge promising to use federal government power to curtail abortion.
Last night, Perry signed a pledge calling for sweeping federal action to stop abortion and appoint anti-abortion advocates to top federal positions, including judgeships. The pledge, written and sponsored by the Susan B. Anthony Fund, has been signed by seven other presidential candidates with the exception of Mitt Romney, Jon Huntsman and Herman Cain.

This is a big contradiction for the republican party these days. They talk about the need for government to get out of our lives and smaller government...unless it is reaching in a matter in which they accept. It can't be ahd both ways. To be fair, I saw the same thing with the democrats back in my time in college at UT regarding freedom of speech. If a speaker were to get scheduled to speak that they didn't like the viewpoints of, they would shout them down and try and have the speaker blocked from coming to campus. My viewpoint with freedom of speech is if you want it, you have to be prepared to accept to hear/see things you don't like or agree with.

...and just wait, the same groups of republicans crying for smaller government and more states rights, will go the way of big government (a la Bush) if they get control of everything. Then it's ok for government to be reaching since it fits within their dogma.

Limited government doesn't always equate to smaller government programs. Yes, limiting the government to those numerated acts, in the cons ution, would necessarily result in smaller government in areas like social programs but, in areas like national defense, where the government is specifically charged with responsibility, it wouldn't necessarily result in a smaller defense department.

Hope that cleared it up for you.

Conservatives aren't "crying for smaller government" except where the appropriate limitations of government would shrink it.

Translation: If it's something we disagree with, get rid of it. If it's something we want, THE BIGGER THE BETTER, baby!

I'm glad he did this - it's very polarizing and hurts his chances for the white house.

That's not to say anyone is going to do a better job, necessarily.

If that's what you understood, fine. But, I don't recall saying, "the bigger the better," or basing my opinion of unnecessary government on that with which I disagree.

And of course, for conservatives, the MIC isn't even part of govt. Bigger MIC is always better, without limit.
