    Insurance, ain't it great?
Not when you're 65+... or when you lose your job due to an accident... then it magically disappears... not great at all.

Well, if you're 65+, and you've been gainfully employed a majority of the previous 50 years, and don't have a robust retirement plan, you've made some poor choices.

I could have a career ending accident now -- although, I'm not sure what that would be in my position -- and I'd be fine.

True, I don't think neocon pastebot is a position fraught with danger.

What does that has to do with insurance being great/not great?

And no, you could have a career ending accident now and not be fine. Don't need to BS me.

Sure, I would. I'm only working now because I like the additional income and I enjoy the work.

Doesn't matter when you no longer have insurance.

Sure, I would. I'm only working now because I like the additional income and I enjoy the work.
And the fact that you get the insurance.

Any sort of out of pocket surgery can quickly put you in the red.

BTW, out of curiosity, am I paying for your salary/insurance?

Well, when I have no insurance it'll be because nobody has insurance. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I doubt it. Had a child that spent six months in a NICU; had my portion paid off in less than six months.

    Nope.

Not really. Three months out of work and you're done, unless you start ponying up.

Your insurance covered it, yoni. If it was you six months in the ICU, bye bye insurance.

So your "law enforcement" career is private "law enforcement" career?

    Nope. You don't pay attention.

Look, I appreciate your concern but, I'm really going to be fine for the next few decades, at least. And, if my savings pattern holds, for much longer.

You do if you don't want to pony up the entire premium. Which takes us to Agloco's point.

    Nope. You don't pay attention.
    So you're a government employee. That's ok.

What part I didn't pay attention to?

Look, I appreciate your concern but, I'm really going to be fine for the next few decades, at least. And, if my savings pattern holds, for much longer.
I'm not concerned. I said I was curious.
I hope your health holds too.

That I'm not a government employee, apparently.

Right, which is hard to offset if you're not actually working. Aglioco's point precisely.

That I'm not a government employee, apparently.
    So you're a government contractor?

Unless you've saved aggressively, since the age of 13; have a nice retirement annuity, and two other personal retirement accounts that will allow you to offset the additional costs without much pain.

    So you're a government contractor?
    Nope.

Which is exactly what Aglioco said. Burning through your savings sounds aptly appropriate.

So you're not in the public sector law enforcement, not on the private sector law enforcement. Not a contractor. Sounds like you're beating around the bush or full of .

As Aglioco described it, no time at all.

I'm not making you answer. Why beat around the bush though? How embarrassing can it really be?

Agloco doesn't know my financial position.

It's not. You should be embarrassed for not seeing the answer, just in the past few posts, in this thread.

Aglioco knows what's the cost of care. You told us your financial position. Certainly not the 1% (your words).

If by "not seeing the answer" you mean that you're retired, I did see that answer. But you said you're still working. No longer in law enforcement?

You don't have to be to afford adequate insurance.

    See, that wasn't hard.

Unfortunately, in the scenario Aglioco pointed out, you might need to be. Even more so if it's a chronic condition before 2014. After that, Obamacare will allow you to buy/keep your insurance.

    See, that wasn't hard.
So I'm paying for your pension?. Good for you, yoni. See? that wasn't hard.
