I don't know if the populace here abouts could stand it. They're barely able to brook Kobe with 5.

How can anyone (other than ignorant/biased Spur fan still mad about 1999) argue against the fact that a shortened season is bogus?
who do you feel would have beaten the Spurs if the season had been a full 82?

son that is impossible to tell because you're talking about 32 missed games.

remember a few years back when the Houston Rockets won like 20 some odd games in a row? were they they best team in the NBA? ... no, but at the time they just hit a lucky winning streak and as the season played out in full they went back to being the scrub team that they truly were. In 1999 the Spurs were that team. They just got lucky at the right time and won that joke of a playoffs / NCAA-like Tournament.

sons since at least 2 full weeks will be cancelled the 2011-12 season officially has a big * attached to it just like the 1999 season did. It will be a bogus "season" if any games are played because the players are not prepared to play, the teams aren't giving 100%, and they won't have enough time to develop like they would over a full 82 game season. It will essentially be a crapshoot just like the 1999 season where virtually any team can win the championship as it will only boil down to a matter of luck with who gets "hot" at the right times.
    isnt this every year?

There is no question that the Blazers will win the le in a shortened season. Greg Oden gets more time to get healthy and Brandon Roy will have less games to wear down his knees. It's the Perfect Storm.

If you think it helped them, you are really re ed

That Spurs team never had great starts and was more confortable in 82 game seasons; they always picked up the pace after the ASG

yup. spurs just went to work like they were supposed to while everyone else was lazy. Spurs took advantage of these lazy s.

don't think the same could happen this time. Duncan is an old bag of and we have 2 manginas called Jefferson and Matt Bonner playing major minutes.

"If New Orleans won it, I would still put an asterisk on it"

Easy to say when your team has no shot

Shortened seasons are actually a test of players who love the game...players that sit around and get fat won't have a ring at the end of the year, players who hold impromptu training camps will have a much better shot.

hey BR Baby...anything played over 29 games lost is legit...that wasn't the case back in 99...if you hadn't won a le prior to 99 then it was an asterisk..

I only get in rare form for the play-offs anyway...so this le will add fury to Kobe's collection....when he ties MJ at 6 and the subsequent * that are to follow will be a sheer delight to watch.

Spur fan will be in a conundrum...they will have to invalidate their own le in order to invalidate Kobe's 6th...which is all but guaranteed...again I'm not double speaking here...99 was different and it's not moving the goal posts...it was the first time an NBA work stoppage occurred and the players were clearly not ready to resume play like they are now...they're working out, playing overseas, hosting their own leagues / tournaments, and are actively involved in the process...so any games lost this time around are being made up for as we speak...

and to you MJ lovers..MJ benefited by taking that time off and retiring those two times...so he gets no special credit...he was refreshed and recharged to win again...so my boy deserves a little extra time too...All I need from Kobe is one more year like 2002 mixed with the wisdom of a 2008 Kobe and I'm good...one more 2 peat is all I ask for....

Only pussies & assholes lodge asterisks.
Yep. some here may hate to admit it but the spurs were a worth champion in 1999. Sure they have not been able to to defend nary a one of their 4, but each le was earned which is the only way you can get one, Donagy or no.

^I don't judge the Champions. That isn't how the system was set up. It was set up a certain way, and if you're going to do this (be a fan) then that is what you signed up for.

Im a Kobe fan, but the MJ ship has sailed. What LITTLe chance he had of catching MJ in legacy has slipped away and a 6th or even 7th le asterisk or not, won't change it. But 2nd best SINCE MJ, that is definitely still in play if it has not been clinched already. He is in stong contention for sure-fire top 10 all-time, greatest Laker of all-time with an outside shot at top 5 in NBA history. And like I have said before to me he ended the Kobe vs. duncan debate the past 3 seasons. But Mj that is another story.

I wish both Kobe supporters and haters would leave MJ out (not directed at Kool just a pet peeve). I'm not one of the ones that worships Mj, I do believe he will be surpassed inmy life-time. I thought LBJ had a slight shot at surpassing him before last year ... but it does not appear any current NBA player has a chance at "catching" Mj for GOAT status. Who knows if that player is even born yet?

Best cases can be made for Kareem, Wilt and Magic ...that's it. Kobe's best hope right now appears to be 2nd greatest two guard in NBA history ... best player since MJ ...none too shabby.

His opportunity to stand with Jordan, or, surpass him ended in Eagle. That spoiled Kobe's master plan. Wrecked it. He had to sell his very soul to avoid time behind the walls. He had to go hat-in-hand to the black community with his black face on and debase himself. He had no other choice, and he knew it. & thank Christ he did it. Since then he's had to live with that self double cross. It's made him mean, or, at the very least exposed his true iden y of being innately mean spirited. Before Eagle, we didn't know. Now we know all about Bryant, his deepest secrets and desires.

He's picked up the thousand + pieces of his life and went on. I'll give him credit for that. But, he knew it could never be like it was. He'll take that realization to the grave.

    Oh two more things ...

    1. Im sure some Spurs fans will try and discredit Kobe's 6th ...which would be hilarious. Or they will say that is only 3 as the leader since Shaq owns the other 3.

    2. Of course the Mavs and heat HAVe to be te favorites going in to next season...Lakers, Bulls, Thunder ... next tier.
