He e-responded and that's that. His editorializing at the end wasn't necessary, but he was prolly annoyed/disgusted at the official report and his tweet reflected as much.
WORSE smell than manure?The Holiday Inn employee said it smelled of manure. It wasn't a "fishy smell." In all likelihood, it was catfish stink bait and that can at times be WORSE than manure.

I'd be highly surprised if Tech and other Lubbock residents didn't do everything they could to keep the police out of it. An immediate cleaning by hotel staff, their own investigation, and so on...I don't doubt it doesn't stink.

I think that's EXACTLY who it was: "some stupid kids." Whether or not they ATTENDED the university is hard to prove. Whether or not they supported Tech, I think that's a bit easier to surmise.
It wasn't as if Byrne was suggesting this was some Tech-sponsored event. Tech has even gone on record in the local paper pleading with the students to lighten up with the excessive nonsense they're now known for before, during, and after games.
I think Tech was simply trying to distance themselves from it as soon as they could after all-too-public past misdeeds, but chose a poor way of doing so.
