Then that's what you should have said. I said it.

You make a swell fart catcher, D.
No, you old goat er. You're the special person in the room who repeats the comment in a different way, as if you had something to add by just saying the same thing.

Me: Then they toss a player for laughing while sitting on the bench

    You: bag was tossed. tee,hee

    Everyone else just filters it.

Get used to it. It's part of turning into dust.

Too many morons, like Kool and Lkrfan, who have been weened on 80s NBA highlights showcasing its "physical" play like McHale taking Rambis's head off, Parish knocking out Laimbeer, or the Bad Boys repeatedly sending Jordan to the floor, mistakenly believe that the 80s was some transcendent era of toughness. When you actually watch the games, however, you discover just how in' apathetic teams were on defense.

The league wide FG% in 1985 was .491, as compared to .459 today. Granted, teams took way less 3 point shots back then, but that also reinforces my point. Today, 3 point shooting is an absolutely crucial component to any offense, needed to spread the floor and open up the inside. Back then, teams didn't employ 3 point shooting as much because they were likely to get a high percentage shot running their regular offense. Besides traps, double teams were hardly used, there weren't many "specialized" perimeter and interior defenders, and teams looked to out score their opponent rather than shut them down. It was indeed an era where "offense wins championships."

Why do you think the NBA ins uted all these rule changes to increase scoring? Because defense got too in' good.

Anyhow, I never saw a point in comparing the 80s to today. In my mind, the time span is still the modern era, and any great player from then would excel in today's game and vice versa.

In two words: No. Like you said he too soft. As far as Merlin, I've been saying for years he is Brad Daughterty at best if he played in the '80s.

I think there are only two players in today's NBA that could play in the '80s and still be a star: Kobe and Wade - that's it. Kobe for obvious reasons, Wade because of his physical style of play. I think he mentally could hang with the physical style that happened during that era. I don't think LBJ would cut it because despite being a physical specimen, he is allergic to post play. He can't use his size to overpower people in that era because they would be able to dish it back without repercussions. I don't think he could stand it.
If this skinny cat, who was a finesse player, could dominate the league in scoring in the 80s, Lebron and his 6' 8" 260 frame would have no problem. Post game not even needed.

    Midnight,

Not because the D has gotten so ing good

Because today you have less skilled and fundamuntally sound players

The main culprit would be more players skipping or finishing college
Also, everybody wants to be the next Michael Jordan
Mike made it look too easy, but a lot of young kids do not realize the amount of work MJ put into his game
He had great fundamentals; if the Bulls won a game on a Saturday night, Mike eould be at the gum as early as 8:00 the next morning

Also, if you watch an 80s game, even a PF scrub could hit the midrange jumpshot consistently ( ok not everybody shot the ball well, lol Darell Dawkins or Wilkes)
Today, we cringe when most big men are on the FT line

Fundamentals have declined, sure, but not to the point where it would be responsible for the massive drop off in scoring from then to now. Defenses are way more sophisticated today. Look how long it takes a new Spurs' player to learn Pop's defense. Back then, it was man-to-man, hope other team misses, grab rebound, get out on the break.

And half the time, players weren't even guarded on those mid-range shots. When I watch an 80s game, I often laugh at just how bad defense was. It's not an indictment of the era, mind you, it was just the mentality coaches and players had back then.

How do you know these things. You didnt get electricity in your country untill after 911, and we're subsidizing that. Mike would never discuss his workout plans with someone like you. Besides, Kobe gets in right after the game, not the next morning.
tbh, I didn't know Pakistan was subsidizing Algeria...

Is this for real? The 80s were a no-defense era. Sure, there were some dirty hits on players at times, but we all know that playing through pain has never been a Dirk problem. Even Skipp Bayless admitted to that during the NBA Finals. If anything Dirk would have ruled that era, especially as teams were just starting to adjust to the 3 pointer.

But, as the saying goes, don't feed the troll, which is what this weak attempt is.

Sorry Lefty, that's pretty ed up.

On a serious, more somber note, Kobe routinely missed practices because he's too good to attend them.
