This.
No NBA franchise in TOP WORLD 50 on annual sport teams income.
The first are the Lakers at rank 54th with "only" 150 M compared to Real Madrid FC 450 M(1st) or Yankees(3rd) 416 M.
The Spurs are far behind at rank 105 with 94 M income wich is pretty good though.
But you can see in this ranking that NFL dominates USA as usual and even MLB earns more money than NBA,like everyone knows.
Then at the top well paid athletes list you see this:
1. Tiger Woods - Golf - United States - €52 million
2. Kobe Bryant - Basketball - United States - €36 million
3. LeBron James - Basketball - United States - €33 million
4. Phil Mickelson - Golf - United States - €32 million
5. Roger Federer - Tennis - Switzerland - €32 million
6. David Beckham - Association football - United Kingdom - €27 million
7. Cristiano Ronaldo - Association football - Portugal - €26 million
8. Alex Rodriguez - Baseball - United States - €24 million
9. Michael Schumacher - Formula One - Germany - €23 million
10. Fernando Alonso - Formula One - Spain - €22 million
11. Lionel Messi - Association football - Argentina - €22 million
12. Rafael Nadal - Tennis - Spain - €21 million
13. Tom Brady - American football - United States - €21 million
14. Valentino Rossi - Motorcycle racing - Italy - €21 million
15. Derek Jeter - Baseball - United States - €20 million
16. Lewis Hamilton - Formula One - United Kingdom - €20 million
I agree it could pretty noob to compare like that but even it's kobe or Lebron or sponsor there're anyway 2 NBA players in top 3.
That resumes everything.
To go further, 50 NBA players make more than 10 M a year of salary.(In dollars)
With 25 ot them between 15 and 25.
Compared to soccer salaries wich count the richest franchises of the world (They dominate the world top 15), the top paid athletes are(in dollars):
1 Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) 16 M
- 2 Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Barcelone)16 M
- 3 Lionel Messi (Barcelone) 14 M
- 4 Samuel Eto´o (Inter) 13 M
- 5 Ricardo Kaká (Real Madrid) 12 M
- 6 Emmanuel Adebayor (Man City) 10 M
- 7 Karim Benzema (Real Madrid) 10 M
- 8 Carlos Tevez (Man City) 9 M
- 9 John Terry (Chelsea) 9 M
- 10 Frank Lampard (Chelsea) 9 M
- 11 Thierry Henry (Barcelone) 9 M
- 12 Xavi (Barcelone) 9 M
- 13 Ronaldinho (AC Milan) 9 M
- 14 Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) 9 M
- 15 Daniel Alves (Barcelone) 8 M
- 16 Michael Ballack (Chelsea) 8 M
- 17 Raúl Gonzalez (Real Madrid) 8 M
- 18 Rio Ferdinand (Man United) 8 M
- 19 Kolo Touré (Man City) 8 M
- 20 Wayne Rooney (Man United) 8 M
- 21 Robinho (Man City/Santos) 8 M
- 22 Iker Casillas (Real Madrid) 8 M
- 23 Victor Valdéz (Barcelone) 8 M
[...]
-50 Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus) 6 M
So the best soccer player in the world Lionel Messi is less paid than Fu***
Antwan Jamison wich makes around 15 M a year !!!
And barely more than Richard Hamilton wich makes 13 M at rank 30 wich is comparable to a top 5 soccer salaries !!!
Fu***** Labor Union my ass.
The NBA players...after today..are to be known as PRIMA DONNA ASSHOLES....![]()
Nobody pays to see David Stern spew bull , or any owner own their team.
All depends where MSM lands & sides. & once they do we'll know then that it's all over for the NBA season.
NBA superstars mean more to the league than any other league IMO. Take Beckham out of MU and people still by MU merchandise, just an example. When it comes to Laker jerseys though, does anyone buy a Derek Fisher's jersey? Even Gasol jersey's?
At the end of the day, the superstars sell the NBA to the world. Look at the 08 olympics, the NBA players were the most recognizeable athletes, even on the other side of the world. How many NBA players were flag bearers for their countires, AK, Manu, Yao, Dirk... There's a reason Stern schedules Heat Vs Lakers on public holidays. This is a players league and everyone knows it.
That said, I still think the vast majority of players make way too much...
It looks like after that last press conference the players have lost.
I used to think the players were the ones elongating this ridiculous quarrel, but it really isn't. Sure, even if they accepted the Owners' proposal, they'd be making a of a lot of money for doing what they love, but they are the only ones making advances towards getting a deal done. When you cut down all the way to 53, it's like your boss telling you, you're no longer getting $18 dollars an hour, but you'll be getting $13 dollars an hour for doing your job the exact same way you did when you got $18.
It's such an extreme shift, the Owners are adamant, and when the players feel like they've been more than reasonable (which they have been) and that the owners haven't moved an inch towards meeting them halfway or even 3/4 of the way, it becomes an issue of pride.
There will be a shortened season like 1999, but I hope it's the owners that realize the error of their ways, and not the players suc bing to their masters after having missed paychecks.
This is 100% the owners' fault. If they weren't absolute morons, they'd know how to run a business better than they do. Or they're completely lying about what's on their books.
Completely agree. Stern and the owners throwing this off on the players when they've run their teams into the ground with their terrible decisions is crazy.
Wouldn't shock me one bit if the owners were lying about all of this.
well duh, it's all the owner's fault. they inflated the player's contracts.
Kobe 30 million
Jefferson 12 million
When a team in a small market and that has always been wise in spending money (a lot of years under the cap) like our make a deal like the Jefferson one just to stay compe ive, it's hard to say iy's all owners fault...
The point is that the 57 % in favor of the players plus a soft cap wasn't at the time a good deal for the owners.
You can't blame little markets 'cause they try to stay compe ive...otherwise, let's play a league with six, seven teams that are ythe only iones that have, in any case, the chance to make a lot more money (Lakers, Knicks, Celtics, Sixers, Heat, Bulls and maybe Mavericks) and another with the rest of the other 23 franchises actually in the nba...
The main problem surely is the revenue sharing between teams (see what happens to the nfl...someone said the behave like communists 'cause the owners share alla the money they make), but it's also sure that the last contract was totally by player's side.
The 50/50 sharing between players and owners seem fair to me, like it is a system that gives to every team a real chance to compete with the others.
The revenue sharing of 50 % of the money made by any team between teams could be, at the some time, a goal to reach for a league decently balanced.
In the last years the opercentage was under the 10 %.
It's unfair that a team like the knicks that's been conducted horribly and that has always overspended in a more horrible way a lot of money over the cap is still actually and has always been in all these years one of the few teams that has made a ton of money.
comparison to other sports is meaningless.
It's about the NBA's BRI divided between owners and 450 players, exclusively.
It's not meaningless....in the nfl contracts are, for the most part, not guaranteed (like in the nba)and the life of an nfl player is, usually, a lot less than the one of a nba player.
The nba players have been really spoiled lately...
I agree that monster's contact like the Arenas one (axpecially with not a clear look at his phisical conditions) are owner's fault, but see what's happened to us...
We had to take a very big risk, financially, just to have a possible chance to compete...
If we talk about faults we have to agree also to the fact that the past contract has been disfunctional to the teams and good just for player's pockets.
An hard cap limit the chance to have horrible effects caused from a bad managements.
The limit is not about the results of a team, but about the economic shape of the team.
That said, i would prefer to implňement the luxury tax from a one dollar for dollar to a 5 dollar for dollar for example.
That's another way to share the money giving to the big markets the chance to overspend and at the same time be bebeficial fotr the small market teams.
I'd rather there be no season than the players get their way. They are spoiled enough as it is.
...........and every player can be replaced, but you cannot replace the team. Would you be happy to replace the New York Knicks with the New York Generals if they had current NBA players? I kind of doubt it.
So New York Knicks with NBDL players or New York Generals with Carmelo and Amare? Tough call.
Are you kidding? Of course I'd rather watch the NY Generals with NBA players than the Knicks without.
You're 100% turned around. The players are what we watch; the teams (and the league) can be replaced.
I think that's a stretch. Sure, the talent makes the league more entertaining, but people watch the games to see THEIR team. Most teams only have 2-3 star-level talents (if they are lucky), but that doesn't prevent people from tuning in and filling the arenas. They want to see the team that they have been supporting for X amount of time win the championship.
, we have to put up with Matt ing Bonner, but that doesn't stop me from tuning in to 80+ Spurs games a season. I'll watch a lot of other teams play games, too, but without the vested interest in the outcome, it's just background noise. If a whole new league was started and there was no longer any Spurs to follow, I for one would be a lot less interested.
Nah. If the NBA collapsed and a new league formed, you'd see fans start flocking to see the new teams. Slight issue on long-term fan bases and so on, but in the long run, even the medium run, there would not be a huge difference.
If you had players on established teams, people would stop watching. If the best players in the NBA started a barnstorming league? That would survive and build into a league in a good amount of time.
Thats how Stern has marketed it though. He tried to get Mexico and Europe to care without putting teams there and pimped Magic, Bird, Erving, Jordan, Nash, Bryant, Wade, James, and now Rose.
The big names go to a particular market and people will go and watch. Stern set it up that way.
30 years of Stern marketing working for the NBA.
NFL contracts are NOT guaranteed. End of story.
it doesnt matter whether the BRI is up/down, CAUSE the payscale will always be there...whether ur worth that payscale is up to the beholder handing out the contracts...
those club revenue is misleading man when you dont take other variances into the equation
barca and real madrid tv rights is individual negotiations and not shared among the league
wherelse clubs in EPL share the tv revenue together...
At the end of the day the players will break because they will be broke while the owners will be fine as they were losing money anyway.
