We will find out how serious we are on Peat this weekend when the coaches have a week "off". If Searels is in Arizona this weekend, you can feel confident that the coaches are still pursuing strong. You can only imagine things if he is not there this weekend.
    Good point, Mex.

Bye week visits and evaluations tell a story. Searels was in Arizona during the last bye week to see Brewer and Peat so let's hope he can make it out again. It will be exciting to see where the coaches go this weekend.

More on OL/DL Arik Armstead of Pleasant Grove, CA. OU and Oregon both stepped in and offered along with Texas once he decommitted from USC, per his father. #1 player in the country according to 24/7 and #26 on Rivals. He will be visiting South Bend this weekend (lots of recruits in attendance) for Notre Dame/USC and Tuscaloosa on November 5th for Alabama/LSU.

    wow

    FYI -
Longhorns offer No. 2 OT Arik Armstead

A few days ago, Arik Armstead (Elk Grove, Calif./Pleasant Grove) decommitted from USC. The idea was to open things up to see what other schools might jump in to the picture, who didn’t feel they had a realistic chance prior to the de-commitment.

It didn’t take long for schools to actively jump on Armstead, as three heavyweight programs have offered the lineman in the last 24 hours.

“Texas, Oregon and Oklahoma have all offered,” Gus Armstead, Aric’s father said. “The one school that hasn’t offered yet that we’re still waiting on is LSU. Hopefully, they’ll come through, but this is exciting. It’s what we were looking for when Aric de-committed. The more options the better right now, so it’s all good.”

Arik Armstead 'pretty excited' about offer

October, 18, 2011 Oct 18 By William Wilkerson

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Longhorns could get an unofficial visit, an official visit, or both from four-star offensive tackle Arik Armstead of Elk Grove, Calif., who recently de-committed from USC, according to his father.

Gus Armstead told HornsNation on Tuesday that his son was interested in doing both since he recently received an offer from Texas.

“Texas was one of the schools that he had identified that he had interest in the whole time,” Gus said. “I think Arik was pretty excited. We had had some discussion with [former Longhorns receivers coach] Bobby Kennedy before he left and went to Colorado. But we really hadn’t heard from Texas much until Arik de-committed. He’s excited.”

Arik Armstead is the No. 14 overall player in the 2012 class.

Some quotes from 2013 OL Ja'Braylin Thomas of Weimar after the OSU game:

When we got there I was expecting to see a lot of people, but I couldn't believe how packed it was,” Thomas said. "It was a great experience. I got to talk to Mack Brown. He asked if I enjoyed it and we just talked for a little bit. He's a nice guy.”

“He's (Stacy Searels) a guy that I've heard so much about and I hadn't gotten a chance to really meet him,” Thomas said. “I talked to him for a little bit and we had a good meeting.”

“To have as many freshmen playing in key spots like they do, I think they actually played pretty good,” Thomas said. “Most teams with a lot of freshmen struggle, but I think they're going to be really good pretty soon.”

“I'm liking UT a lot,” Thomas said. “It's a really good environment. It's close to home so I could go away to a good college and my family would still only be an hour away and be able to come see me play.”

“It's something (good grades) I'm proud of and certainly something that keeps my parents happy,” Thomas said. “Without my grades, there is no football.”

    article on peat 10/19
    http://espn.go.com/college-sports/re...ives-ua-jersey

'If Todd wasn't at Nebraska would I still want to go there?' I know I would, and that's why they're on my list and why I'm taking an official visit there in November."

Peat said there are several other schools on his list and he plans to make his next cut after his season.

"I'm looking at Stanford, Texas, Florida, Florida State, USC and Notre Dame still," he said. "I'm close to setting a visit with Stanford, but that's the only school I know I'll be visiting other than Nebraska.

"I really don't have a timeline of when I'll make my commitment. It could be at the UA game, it could be on signing day. Honestly, whenever I know, that's when I'll announce. I would like to take all five visits, but like I said, if I find the right place before taking all of them, I'll go ahead and make my choice."

Connor's comments don't sound good on Peat --

WHAT ABOUT ANDRUS PEAT, RUMORS ARE THAT HE’S COOLED ON US
As far as I know we’re still pursuing him. I think he’s pretty wide open but he may have an idea of who is in his top two or three.

I hate to say yawn, but I'll say yawn. Barnes and Brantley are nice players, but there are better options out there. I wish they were visiting more high profile recruits on the all important final bye week.

“All the success they have and the players that they send to the NFL stands out. Alabama is a traditional program and they attract a lot of good players with Nick Saban and the winning tradition they have. It’s kind of hard to overlook them."

Greg Biggins (ESPN West Coast recruiting) message:

"AZ OL Andrus Peat just had his his UA jersey ceremony, gut feel is this one comes down to a Nebraska- Stanford battle"

Speculation is he was hot on Texas and FSU but lackluster on-field performance cooled him off on both and he is looking hard at Stanford now.

seems like by all accounts the entire peat family is pretty tight, and not only would he play with his brother at NU, but the family could all go out to see games and see both play. i've always felt all along it was uphill battle all along with nebraska due to this. hopefully a strong close to the season and a official visit will at least get us in the running.

Some Friday notes going into the weekend...

**Stacy Searels is still headed to Carthage tonight to evaluate OL Greg Brantley, but he will also be heading to NW Mississippi CC to evaluate OL Donald Hawkins. An "in" that UT currently has at that school is Searels coached with NWMCC's defensive line coach at Georgia. Hawkins is considered to be one of the top JUCO OL prospects in the country and is also being pursued by Florida and Georgia despite being committed to Oklahoma State. It sounds like he will be offered by Texas this weekend. Here are some quotes from him along with his profile:

    http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...Hawkins-125009

"I just talked to him (Searels) about an hour ago. He said he's coming in on Saturday," Hawkins said on Thursday night. "I want to put on a show for him, give the man what he wants. He told me he wants 7 pancakes. I told him I can get 7 if they don't pull me."

"Early this week, I got a message relayed to me by one of my coaches. He asked me would I be interested in going to Texas because the O-line coach from Texas saw my film and they were having some inconsistent play with their lineman," Hawkins said. "That led him to come to Juco to look at me.

"He said I'm a big need for Texas. thought I told him I thought Texas didn't recruit junior college players. He said they don't normally, but will if it's a need. He said they're interested in me and he didn't want to waste time if not I'm not interested."

"I told him right now I'm committed to Oklahoma State but I'm not 100 percent on that."

"He's going to come in to watch the game, get to know me a little bit. He said he's pretty high on me," Hopkins said. "He wants me get me down there, wants me to be a Longhorn. He watched my film, he thinks I'm the best junior college OL there is."

**At least one more staff member will be in Richardson tonight at the Dallas Jesuit/Lake Highlands game evaluating both 2013 WR Jake Oliver and 2013 OL Kent Perkins. I assume it will be Darrell Wyatt.

**More on OL/DL Arik Armstead of Pleasant Grove, CA....a visit to Austin does look like it's in his future but the staff has two huge obstacles in front of them right now if they plan on signing Armstead in February. He's pretty much set on playing DL (UT wants him desperately for the OL) and he also wants a shot at playing basketball. Supposedly the staff has already been in touch with Rick Barnes and his guys about this, but nothing more to report other than that. Armstead will be on an official visit in South Bend this weekend for Notre Dame/USC.

**More from WR Bryce Treggs of Bellflower, CA...he still maintains that he'd take a trip to Austin if the coaching staff was willing to extend an invite for an official vist. Some more quotes from him:

"I've been thinking about Texas ever since the opening, when I met Cayleb Jones, Johnathan Gray and Connor Brewer. They had nothing but good things to say," Treggs said. "It's one of best programs in the country over the past decade so there's a some interest in Texas."

"They would def get a visit if they offered a visit," Treggs said. "Definitely."

"That's why I'm taking the visits, to see if there's anything that can sway me away," Treggs said. "It will come down to education, the opportunity for early playing time and my relationship with the position coach."

**Kind of a non-update on ATH Nelson Agholor of Tampa, FL, but his coach has stated he will not take any more official visits until his high school season ends. He was able to visit Notre Dame during his team's bye week, but no additional trips have been set up as of yesterday.

**It appears 2013 RB Keith Ford of Cypress Ranch is finished for the season after injuring either his foot or lower leg. He will still be heavily pursued by almost everyone regardless.

**Lastly, QB/ATH Jalen Overstreet of Tatum also received a call from Bryan Harsin this week. No word if UT will get out to one of his games this year.
