Illuminating quotes from the late and not so great Steve Jobs:

"You're headed for a one-term presidency," he told Obama at the start of their meeting, insisting that the administration needed to be more business-friendly. As an example, Jobs described the ease with which companies can build factories in China compared to the United States, where "regulations and unnecessary costs" make it difficult for them.

Jobs also criticized America's education system, saying it was "crippled by union work rules," noted Isaacson. "Until the teachers' unions were broken, there was almost no hope for education reform." Jobs proposed allowing principals to hire and fire teachers based on merit, that schools stay open until 6 p.m. and that they be open 11 months a year.

So then, will the new hipster mantra be to repeal environmental and safety regulations while dismantling worker's rights?

Steve Jobs was a genius innovator, but he could have build his technology in the US and improved the lives of millions of Americans...he made the choice to build his a lot cheaper somewhere else...like every other businessman he put the interest of his investors above the interests of American workers....bet he's regretting that right now....

All those ty batteries and hard drives are his progeny of cost control. They made a conscious decision that it was easier to deal with recalls then to actually QC the batteries.

And if by innovation you mean select sans sarif font by default then i agree. He didn't invent the GUI, portable MP3 player, honeycomb, flash etc. He put them in nice packages.

    Marketer? You bet.

    Artist? Sure why not.

    Innovator? Nope

I disagree..its very easy for businesses to get complacent and not take chances...the fact that anyone could have done what both Gates and Jobs did does not belittle the fact that nobody else but them did...that takes vision and cheepazz..that's what businesses need but most don't have - a visionary leader ...and to put his vision to practical application Jobs had to be very innovative...I just think he could have helped more people here in the process instead of some foreign sweat shop.....in that, he failed big time....

In addition to the usual Billionaire Boys Club anti-Union blather, Jobs’ comments essentially repudiate Democracy and endorse a Communist/Authoritarian regulatory structure as THE desirable business environment, and yet he’s hailed as a visionary hero. Just another 1%er spewing bollocks IMO.

HP did a pad in the early 2000s. iPad isn't at all an original concept, just a good iteration propelled by the anything-Apple-is-cool culture effect.
