but he's got real nice hair!
Now what kind of Texan backs out of a debate?
One that can't hold his own? One who can only via negative ads?
Bad idea IMO.
but he's got real nice hair!
If he doesn't have the juevos to debate then how the does expect to be Commander in Chief?
Skipping debates and running negative ads is how Perry has remained governor so it shouldn't be a suprise that he's thinking of going back to what has always worked for him.
I agree it's a bad idea now. He might have had better success if he would have followed that tactic from the get go but now it just looks bad for him.
Then again, it can't be worse for him than being in the debates has been.
I was frankly surprised he showed up in any of them to begin with. Perry's best chance is to keep holding prayer rallies with that head Hagee.
It's not a question of juevos, it's that "his people" have realized that the more he opens his mouth, the more his bag-of-hammers stupidity become evident. eg, his birther screw-up.
$15M buys a certain amount of tv time. It'll be interesting to see how Rick Perry chooses to burn a great big pile of OPM.
This sets a disgusting precedent, which I'm sure will be followed in future elections since quick-hit ads are so much easier than answering questions. I'm surprised we even have debates now.
I didn't think Perry was capable of this kind of quick self-destruction. He can only now rely on and cultivate the bigoted and ignorant elements of the GOP, which I guess could still be a winning strategy.
Karl Rove's Secret Ploy?
The superstrategist turned talking head has fired shots at Herman Cain, Sarah Palin, Rick Perry, Donald Trump—calling them the ‘nutty fringe.’ Mic e Cottle asks, is it all a Rove ploy to get Romney to the White House?

Again, the nomination is Willard's to lose. He's the Repug mucky-mucks choice.
If there were debates held where he had to yammer on prior to his being given the governor's mansion, he probably would never have gotten it.
Neither did I. I've heard him on interveiws for years and it's not like he can't form coherent sentences. I knew debates weren't his strong suit but wasn't expecting him to be this bad.
yup keep his mouth shut, that is the best chance he's got.
as soon as he open his mouth, it's facepalm time
Agreed. He always held his own in interviews.
Skipping the debates is pretty chicken , but the way he keeps getting destroyed it's pretty much his only option at this point.
This really doesn't suprise me at all. It doesn't get any weaker than this.
He can just go Palin now and complain about the gotcha media asking him unfair questions in the debates.
His team is beginning to realize that debates are a major point of weakness for him. He either comes off as too passive or as a complete . imo its a good move to protect him from that.
Must not have his six shooter with him.
oops, Jimmy Ricky distancing himself from 10therism, maybe he's realized there's not enough tea bagging extremists to outvote the 65+ Medicare gang?
Tentherism Is So Toxic, Even Rick Perry Abandons It
Perry is also an ambitious politician who doubtless read the Tea Party’s tea leaves and determined that it was in his political interest to come out as a tenther. Now that his campaign has run seriously off the rails, however, even Perry appears to recognize that outing himself as a tenther was not such a good way to advance his political career. Although Perry’s recently released economic plan would unquestionably be the most radical assault on America’s social safety net in nearly a century if it ever became law, it is also strangely moderate compared to Perry’s previous stance that Medicare, Social Security, and much of our educational infrastructure must be eliminated entirely because they are uncons utional:
Social Security: As Travis Waldron reported yesterday, Perry’s new position on Social Security is a George W. Bush-esque proposal to turn millions of Americans’ retirement funds over to Wall Street through privatization. This is a dangerous and radical idea, but it is a far cry from Perry’s original position that the very idea of providing Social Security to America’s seniors is an “assault” on the Cons ution itself.
Medicare: Perry also supports a number of terrible Medicare proposals, including a Paul Ryan-style plan to voucherize Medicare, “gradually raising the age of Medicare eligibility,” and reducing benefits for many seniors. These proposals could potentially phase out Medicare over time depending on how closely they map Ryan’s subtle plan to gradually eliminate Medicare. Nevertheless, Perry’s new willingness to allow something that vaguely resembles Medicare to continue to exist is a step back from his previous claim that Medicare “eroded our founding fathers’ boundaries that they had put upon the federal government.”
Education: Perry also proposes cutting $25 billion in federal education funds — or about half of all funding for elementary and secondary education programs. This new position is only about 50 percent as radical as his previous statement that “I don’t think the federal government has a role in your children’s education.”

Perry had the worse week ever.![]()
This. It got him to be Texas Governor for 10 years. I am shocked by the lack of shock over this by anyone who thinks this is at all a head scratcher.

Rick Perry: The Best Little In Texas
The Texas governor has one driving passion: selling off government to the highest bidder
We thought Bush was the worst thing Texas ever gave to America. But if Rick Perry wins the White House, it won't be long before we're all remembering crazy-ass W. and his loony Iraq crusade with something like fondness. Bush, for all his flaws, actually believed in something, and was filled with humanity – negative humanity, mostly, but it was there all the same. Good ol' George, the ex-drunk who loved football, couldn't speak English, choked on his pretzels and sincerely wanted to save Iraq from itself!
There were lines even George Bush wouldn't cross, but we don't know any that exist for Rick Perry. Imagine what he could charge for abolishing the EPA, or selling Mount Rushmore to the Sultan of Brunei. And while he may have slipped in the polls, he's far from done. In this country, you never count out the lowest common denominator, especially when it knows how to raise money.

Rick Perry’s Environmental Commission: Climate Threat Is ‘Unsettled Science’
Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) has stacked his administration with global warming deniers. As a result, scientific warnings about the threat of man-made climate change to Texans is being censored. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality expurgated mentions of sea level rise caused by global warming in a report on the future of Galveston Bay. The climate scientists involved have removed their names from the paper. At a hearing this week, the commissioners and the scientists publicly confronted each other. L’Oreal Stepney, deputy director of the Office of Water at the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, told NPR the commission censored the report because climate change is “unsettled science“:
It’s unsettled science, in our opinion, and that’s our position, and we’ve been clear about that.
“I think the travesty here is that this chapter was actually written for teachers,” climate scientist John Anderson said at the hearing. “They’re my target audience, and this to me is just an outward attempt to keep scientific information, scientific fact, from getting into classrooms.”

All of TX is a turning tricks for BigOil
Perry may be flip flopping on the whole idea. He knows he has to debate to have a realistic chance.
