I was thinking about who is a comparable player to Manu Ginobili throughout league history and being that I don't know much about the older days before Jordan, I couldn't think of any player similar to Manu.

We know that Amare is reminiscent of a young McDyess, Kobe is similar to Michael, Derrick Rose seems to be in the AI mold, and while these aren't exact comparisons, they are still similar.

So what players do ya'll don't have a similar counterpart?

Dirk and Manu are the first two the come to my mind

Tonys skill set is pretty unique from the pg position. Not particularly athletic, pretty small, and, at his best, absolutely unstoppable going to the rim and finishing without any derrick-rose-esque explosiveness. Really an underrated joy to behold.

So you've been playing NBA Live 2010 eh? Where Marv asks "Steve, down through the years, can you think of anyone who plays like Manu Ginobili?" or something like that.

    Shaq.

He took two posers to the show and rung for both.

Then Kobe hunted him down and left him dead in the ground 5-4.

Offensively Ginobili reminds me of a prime Jeff Hornacek. Both were/are good shooters (Hornacek definitely better though), had a herky jerky off-balanced style of playing, good passers, and they both had a knack for making impossible circus shots in the paint. Gino's defense was a lot better though.

Parker reminds me of Kevin Johnson. Neither were terribly athletic but both used their speed to knife through defenses and get an edge on the break. KJ was a little better offensively and was by far the better playmaker and floor general.

Another good comparison would be Damon Stoudamire.

    No,

Then Kobe sucked ass for a few years and threatened to quit, until Pau was acquired at which time the Lakers magically became number 1 contenders again.

Cept Pau couldn't win a single playoff game till Kobe took him in.

    It's like this:

    Kobe with Shaq = ring x 3

Kobe without Shaq = PJ quits, Kobe threatens to quit (Shaq rings)

    Kobe with Pau = ring x 2

Kobe with distracted Pau (Playoffs) = swept, PJ quits

    Allen Iverson. Charles Barkley.

Manu is pretty unique. I think his slipperiness and dribbling allow him to handle the ball like a PG on offense, and he's one of the best players at mixing up driving ability, the ability to shoot, and the ability to create scoring opportunities for teammates that I've seen over the past decade. He's similar in ways to guys like Kobe or Vince or T-Mac. But also being left handed and not necessarily quite as athletic (although Manu is underrated there), I do think he is pretty special.

Dirk has an obvious comparison in Larry Bird. I'd also suggest that Dirk is what Toni Kukoc could have been had Kukoc started his NBA career when he was 20-21 and was on a team that let him be the franchise player they built around.

I've heard the Bird-Dirk comparison before but I never saw Larry play except for a few classic films, but other than them being white dudes who score how are they similar?

Being white and scoring at will in the NBA is all the the similarity you need.

PF size with excellent guard skills, particularly exceptional shooting, but also very solid at dribbling and passing. Both premier #1 go-to scorers. Both very good one-on-one players on offense. Neither noted as great defenders, but smart team defenders. Both very good rebounders, especially at the defensive end. Both relied more on skill than athleticism to produce, although both are more athletic than given credit for.

Both being tall and white is something that some people might think makes the comparison generic. But their games had plenty of similarities beyond that. And with the recent championship run, Dirk can also bring championship greatness into the comparison.

Not really. You just make repe ive, generic statements without any consideration for the facts. I think some here call it scoreboarding.

Proof by assertion is a logical fallacy, and no I am not bending over.
