Even if you are right, the appropriate response to trespassing is tear gas, rubber bullets, and riot police. Got it. That makes a lot of sense. Totally fine use of taxpayer money.
What level of force to you think is appropriate when they don't follow instructions?

Try cuffing them and taking them in first.

And at the first sign of attack?

Oh, gee, I don't know, cuffing and dragging in the person who's attacking?

Let's see, you have 3000 people protesting and 15 people being violent. Do you really think the best solution is to tear gas and attack THE ENTIRE CROWD? If you have a purse snatcher rob someone in Times Square, do you move in with 500 mounted units and start macing everyone to make sure that order is maintained?

    I wasn't there. Were you?

Was there a video that shows the incident well enough, or are these accounts that may not be in context?

I'm sorry, maybe it is a little overkill, but dammit. I have no sympathy for a thuggish gang type mentality, which this has become with some of these people. In large numbers, they represent a threat. Just yesterday, a protester pushed a bicycle cop into a moving bus here in Portland. Yes, he was injured. The police do not know who is and isn't a threat, and must consider 1 in 15 the threat, and take no chances.

I say the protesters if they can't keep their own in check.

Arrest all of them for trespass if they don't move out.

Really now. How did they get inside the property? break a window? break a door or lock?

Doesn't really matter at that point.

    Chump...

Do you understand the tactical dangers of going inside a building under someone elses control, who may be dangerous?

I say tear gas was appropriate. Too easy to get ambushed by simply going in to move them out.

As far as I know, it is a standard tactic when a group disobeys a lawful police order.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think so.

Of course it is a tactic.

    It's not the only tactic.

    You have a closed mind.

What are the other options when held up in a building?

Every time you try to convince me otherwise, you reinforce my conclusion.

Thinking tear gas is the only tactic, for example.

Yet you haven't offered viable nonlethal alternatives that get the job done, and eliminate possible violence.

Cops just serving the people, covering their name like any good cop should. Got anything to say for them, WC? Come on. Surely there's a good reason for a cop to have tape directly over his name.
