I don't want to leave the Patriots bandwagon, but Brady's growing gayness is pushing me out

So, what manly contending team should I root for?

Tbh the Pats are 2-3 years away from being a non-playoff team the way things are headed (heck if they lose to the Jets they're in danger of missing the playoffs this season). We'll see who's still a fan then. I plan to be one.

For the first time since 2005, people (other than pessimistic fans like me) no longer think it's a sure thing Brady goes on another superbowl run. From 2005-2010, there was always the sense that whether it be this year, the year after, or the year after that, Brady and Belichick would find a way to win another superbowl and possibly go on another run. As it stands I question whether or not a QB who's deep ball and finesse pass as unreliable as Brady's can win in today's NFL.

From 2001-2004, a good running game and a ball control passing game that relied on smaller, quick twitch receivers who ran great routes and a QB who could get the ball to them quickly was all that was needed. In today's NFL, being able to stretch the field with your offense and throw passes at any speed all over the field is a must. That's why I still think Moss was so important if Brady was gonna win one in the modern era. He was the one deep ball receiver smart enough to know where Brady's erratic deep balls were going AND freakish enough to do stuff like come back to a deep ball Brady under threw and catch it over double coverage.

Considering there were about six of them total before 2001 or so, I'd say yes, they do.

Texans got dat balance. Strong running game and smash mouth defense. Oh and I think they have a decent receiver returning soon.

Belichick better use all the draft picks he's acquired next year. We can't keep saving them up for a rainy day. Heck, it's probably already too late.

Trading draft picks the way he does is fine. He's found a way to cycle them where he has a 1st and multiple 2nd rounders every year. He never trades for another 1st round so he can use two the next year, he knows that with that 2nd 1st rounder he'll sucker some team into giving its 1st rounder a year from then AND a 2nd round pick for a player they want.

The problem is him being too stubborn to have a real defensive coordinator who can develop players and implement a system that doesn't change every year. Him being way too impatient with the players he drafts is also a problem and it's made worse by constantly moving players around.

Take Brandon Meriweather for example. Enters the NFL as a free safety. Is converted to strong safety as Rodney Harrison's replacement. Starts to settle into his role and do well from 2008-2009. Patrick Chung is poised for a breakout season in 2010 and takes over at strong safety so Meriweather has to move back to free safety and play more coverage/less at the LOS. He is inconsistent and sucks re-adjusting to free safety. Belichick cuts him before he even gets a chance to have 1 full season adjusting to his new role.

Darius Butler is even worse. Has a great rookie year and then has to move after McCourty is drafted to play where he played most of the time. Starts of his 2nd season horribly (gee, a sop re slump, that's never happened before!) but settles in nicely as the nickel corner at the end of the year. Then he's cut before his 3rd season even starts because Belichick trusted that Bodden, a 30 year old coming off a major shoulder injury (not an easy surgery for corners to recover from), and Dowling, a rookie who hasn't been healthy since he was drafted, made him expendable.

Jermaine Cunningham spends his entire rookie season transitioning from 4-3 DE to 3-4 OLB in a 2-gap defense and then is useless once Belichick thinks that a shortened preseason and training camp makes it so a 4-3 defense would work better for a roster full of players who are used to a 3-4.

Offensively, the problem is him investing too much in risky parts. Deion Branch losing one too many steps and becoming useless was inevitable and there's no backup plan. OchoCinco being one of many deep ball receivers who could never click with Brady was also very likely and there was no backup plan.

The Packers seem like the obvious choice. Well positioned to repeat, nobody too douchy on their roster. Plus depending on how old you are there's a decent chance you were on their bandwagon back in the Prime Favre days, so you might be able to play it off like you were a fan this entire time. Then you've got the whole historic franchise, legendary Lambeau Field, Lombardi's legacy, blah, blah, blah stuff to fall back on so that you look like the furthest thing from a bandwagoner at all.
