I think if the crime was handled properly, I'd agree with you. If the crime happened last week, and all of this was coming out of Penn State and them proactively taking every measure to make sure Sandusky was prosecuted immediately to make sure this stopped right now, then I'd agree with you completely.
I see the cover-up as something that makes the whole ordeal an ins utional issue. When you have the perpetrator first being associated with the football program and then the football program along with the university not handling things the way they should have, it becomes an extension of not only the university, but the athletic department, and the football program. The crime by itself is a criminal matter that should involve the alleged criminal only. The 10 year or so cover-up makes it a university and football program issue. The school administrators, president, athletic director, football coach do not only represent the university, but the NCAA. It's my opinion that the NCAA should view it that way and levy penalties against the university accordingly. That's just how I see it.
