The difference being this situation involved kids actually being molested.

Unless of course there's more truth to you being a child molester than anyone actually thought

So, I'm not sure what's been reported in here to this point, but breaking news in the last hour:

Sportswriter Mark Madden went on WEEI in Boston and reported a rumor that alleged child molester Jerry Sandusky would pimp out boys to rich donors.

"I hear a rumor that there will be a shocking development from the Second Miles Foundation ... That Jerry Sandusky and Second Mile were pimping out young boys to rich donors."

Madden claims it's being investigated by "two prominent columnists."

We'd say this is ridiculous, and that you should take it with a grain of salt. But Madden actually wrote about Sandusky for the Beaver County Times six months ago — long before the scandal blindsided everyone else this week.

Madden also claimed Sandusky was forced out of Penn State in 1999.

"I think you'll find out that Jerry Sandusky was told he had to retire in exchange for a cover up."

Sandusky retired at 55 in 1999, a year after Pennsylvania police investigated (but did not prosecute) him for alleged molesting a boy.

Again, label this under "RUMOR." But Madden has been out in front of this story before, so stay tuned.

I'll feel extremely bad for Penn State students if that's true.

IMO it would also mean Paterno wasn't at fault and was scapegoated to begin with. As much power as we all think he has, rich boosters who can get anyone they want to fired have more power.

Also, if this is all true, and Penn State football facilities were used to facilitate a child molestation ring involving Penn State boosters and a former Penn State coach, while there was a unified effort by Penn State officials to let it all go on, then it shouldn't even be a question. Penn State football should get a death penalty worse than SMU got. It should be the worst penalty a program in any sport has ever gotten from the NCAA.

Interesting piece of info... Ray Gricar, the original DA in the case, his body has never been found.

    LINK: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/09/sp...r-mystery.html
On April 15, 2005, Gricar, then 59, took the day off. At about 11:30 a.m., he called his girlfriend, Patricia Fornicola, to say he was taking a drive on Route 192. About 12 hours later, she reported him missing.

The next day, Gricar’s Mini Cooper was found in a parking lot in Lewisburg, about 50 miles from his home in Bellefonte. Gricar’s cellphone was in the car, but not his laptop, wallet or keys, which were never recovered. Months later, the laptop was found in the Susquehanna River without its hard drive, which was discovered later. It was too damaged to yield any information. On the fourth anniversary of his disappearance, investigators revealed that a search of his home computer yielded a history of Internet searches for phrases like “how to wreck a hard drive,” according to a report at the time in The Centre Daily Times.

When Gricar disappeared helicopters, dive teams and patrol cars were deployed, and the F.B.I. was brought in. Reports of Gricar turning up in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Maryland and other states proved to be dead ends.
My unsubstantiated rumor, Gricar was addicted to kiddie porn, used Sandusky to take it a step farther, then was blackmailed by Sandusky to release him, and, before the new -storm broke, he R-U-N-N-O-F-T'd to escape, or was killed.

Wasn't an apology. Paterno still coulda done more, I just don't fault him for it because it would have cost him his job and the donors coulda done anything to sabotage him.

I'm not letting myself be surprised by much else in this case. It's looking like Sandusky's "charity" was just a front for lots of horrible things; child molestation/abuse, sex trafficking, paying players, etc. You factor in the Pennsylvania DA who practically vanished and you can throw in a possible murder. There's just no way Paterno didn't know something and his role in this whole thing will be unveiled sooner or later. There are a lot of men who need to be dangling by their nutsacks right now.

IMO it makes Paterno even more culpable if there was an actual kiddie pros ution ring going on. If it's one guy, it's a little more believable that Paterno didn't know the extent of what was going on. A child pros ution ring going on with boosters and donors? And he knows nothing? He might be a scapegoat, but to me that makes this entire cover-up and everyone involved even more criminally responsible for this storm. And everyone, Paterno included, deserve as much punishment allowed by law. Paterno might not be the most culpable, but to me he can't plead ignorance on this one.

Hand in hand with the rumor of the kiddie ring is the Penn State cover up that found charges against Sandusky never fully looked into, and Sandusky "retired" at age 55 from a program who'd named him successor for a then 70-YO coach.

The fact that Penn State could have worked hand in hand the supposedly crooked and now never-found AD at the time suggests that Paterno knew much, much more, as Paterno wasn't a figurehead at Penn State — many would argue he was Penn State.

I owe it all to this Sandusky fellow.

True, I misspoke by saying he wasn't at fault. He's still at fault but I don't blame him for not ratting out people more powerful than he is. If there's a connection between this and the DA disappearing off the face of the planet, then it's even more understandable that JoePa wouldn't wanna report people involved with that.

Gricar was successfully "Xed" out of the equation whether that be murdering him or paying him off to disappear for a very long time. Finding a laptop of his, that probably once held valuable evidence, destroyed in a river is worth mention.
