I'd agree Obama would destroy Perry in a debate, but idk if Perry would be worse than McCain in terms of debates.

McCain was about as bad as one can be in terms of debates. He was dumb as a brick and it showed with people who actually look for substance, but he also came off as an elitist to dumb Americans who think being smart is a bad thing and want an "average american" as president. Perry is a dumb candidate but he's at least got that folksy bull millions of Americans look for.

McCain knew his platform, at least. He never dropped an "oops" bomb where he forgot a 1/3rd of one of his major policies.

Sarah Palin actually said to Katie Couric, "I don't know the answer to that, I'll have to get back to you on it," During an interview and it didn't bother the Religious Right at all because she still had her folksy, bible thumping appearance going for her. Rick Perry has that same appearance. McCain didn't.

Unfortunately Perry hasn't hurt himself enough to not get elected Texas Gov4Life
I'm not so sure about that. Remember Perry claimed it was Bill White who was avoiding a debate. He can't use that type of tactic now that the cat is out of the bag. More importantly, there are some rich Texas boys losing money on the horse they bet on. They might decide to send him to the glue factory next election.

Then why is Rick Perry's rating dropping through the floor right now?

He'd get demolished in a debate with Obama.

Yes, Obama could demolish someone that clearly sucks at debating. Good call.

    Obama without a teleprompter...

    LOL...
I know what you mean...kinda like when he went to the "Republican only Retreat" without a teleprompter and proceeded to undressed them in front of the world... "No Telepromter, No Earpiece, No assistance from anyone!!"

The fact that board Republicans think that attacking Obama on his skills of oration with any legitimacy shows how disillusioned they are. I don't even like Obama, but I"m not stupid enough to suggest that he's anything less than a marvelous public speaker. It would be similar to saying Bush did wonders for our international image.

I think Palin's a moron, but I have no problem with ANYONE saying "I don't know, I'll get back to you" - at least it's honest.

Forgetting 1/3 of the point you are trying to make a for a minute solid is another story.

Edit: If Couric was asking Palin what 2+2 was, then it's another story.

I won't fault the guy for saying "oops," but he has made a habit of making Texas look like a bunch of idiots for electing him all these years. I don't know how he did it, but he fooled the state for a decade and I guess he thought he could fool the country - but he only fooled himself into believing he could be President. Still, it would be funny to see Barry lay the smack down on him in a head to head campaign.

I think saying "I'll get back to you" during an interview is somewhat tone-deaf... are you going to schedule another interview to followup on those answers? I'd like to think there was a better "political" answer.

Perry didn't "fool" Texas, Texas is a GOP political machine. No one gives a , they just go out and pull the lever marked 'R'. If you make promises to the right people, and just get on the ballot, you're in. If Jesus came back to Earth in all his glory, and ran in TX with a 'D' after his name he'd lose for two reasons: one, the 'D', and two, they'd think he was a Messican.

This is the first time he's actually had to compete. Deep down, I think he doesn't want to run, but his monied backers forced his hand. When you make someone do something they don't want to do, they tend to do a half-assed ty job.

"I don't know how he did it,"

As Taibbi nailed him, the best little in Texas. Pay to play, all the way. Didn't help that TX is full of ignorant bubbas who think Real Macho Men don't vote for anything but Repugs.

The first part of your answer is one of the most cogent assessments of political reality in Texas I have ever read. The second part...not so sure. I don't think that he is doing much of anything subconsciously...or consciously.

I somewhat agree. I think he wanted to run but after the first few debates he found out he was in over his head. Now I think he wants out, but knows that it's better to get beat than quit. So he flubs a few more debates, gets beat in the primary and returns to Texas where he can blast the evil media for making him look bad.
