Why are the protesters so stupid?

Now the guy who first was hit. Notice what he does beforehand. He puts his hand to his mouth, and cant tell, but looks like maybe he threw something at the policeman who hit him.

Wish I has a different view. However, what if he was one of the six arrested? Maybe he was arrested for assault?

Like it or not, the police can use non lethal and painful force.

Why Is the Oakland Police Department Hiding the Truth About Its Violent Crackdown on the Occupy Protests?

After three notably violent crackdowns on protesters in as many weeks, Oakland Police Department officials have refused a request by the ACLU of Northern California to release police reports do enting their use of force as required by law.

You have to be a complete asshole to minimize this. I don't care what you think about the media coverage, but for you to justify actions in America that I would expect in a country like Syria then is complete bull .

Its asinine for people like Darrin to act like people who care enough about the way our government is bought to protest are cry babies when all people like Darrin do is sit around and post Youtubes about ridiculous all day. I can't believe you at times, Darrin. You have the gall to conside yourself a ing "alpha male" when you and I both know that you wouldn't know how to take control of a situation if your life depended on it. You're the god damn definition of a follower.

    Oh shut the up.

You have a right to peaceable assembly. If you obstruct the right of way to citizens, overstay, refuse to move, you are commiting aggression.

I knew you were always easily fooled.

You have to give Manny a break.

He's intelligence impaired, and only recites what his peer reviewers agree on.

I honestly cannot understand how anyone could disagree with the OWS crowd.

    Is there no leadership? Yup.
Are they particularly cogent and organized? Not at all.
Have clear goals? Sort of, yes. I would say yes.

But none of that would preclude me from agreeing with any amount of people who clearly and obviously demand only one thing.

The removal of corporate influence in the US government.

I would really like to see someone argue against this motive. I wont understand you, I know I will not agree with you in any way, shape or form, but I would certainly be interested to read why you think the OWS movement is a bad thing/stupid/ignorant.

    Please, someone.

As an aside, a small observation.

If these OWS crowds obeyed the demands of the authorities, there would be no movement, no protest.

The authorities do not want these people congregating or protesting. They will, are and do go to great lengths to move them out, shut them down.

The authorities are being ordered to effectively shut these protests down by any means necessary and they are trying desperately to do so.

So, when it comes to "illegal congregations" and the same old, tired argument from authorities about permits, etc, I have no tolerance for that.

Youre basically saying you can only protest the government when and where the government allows you to protest. I am sorry, thats an incredibly lopsided conflict of interest at best. Because the obvious answer the government would have on these and other movements, especially the OWS crowds because theyre setting up tent-cities, is to not let them happen at all.

As a citizen you have the right to protest, period. If 1000s of people mad enough, organized enough and committed enough to a cause, there should be nothing you can do to stop them unless they get violent. Yes, even at the expense of business and trade.

That is the point after all, you want the message heard and felt by all. Maybe when people's bottom lines are affected by the message, they will consider the position in negotiations.

I honestly dont understand anyone who defends the authorities in the OWS situations. You dont make sense...youve let your political bias permeate your sense of self to an altogether unhealthy level. Because the people you identify with disagree, then so must you with no real attempt to decide yourself. Is it acceptance? Groupthink?

    I dont understand.

I, for one, hope the OWS movement swells into the millions across the whole of the nation. I hope the OWS movement dwarfs the Tea Party movement 100:1.

I hope leadership emerges from this in droves that wins offices across the nation.

Because, in my humble opinion, this is the last recourse for this version of democracy. If corporations cannot be limited by this government on whatever legal grounds and this change cannot happen, then it is time for a new government that doesnt have a "For Sale" sign on its chest every election cycle.

This movement either affects change and the country is better. Or it does not and our government will continue to be the property of the highest bidders, not its citizens. What comes out of those scenarios is anyone's guess.

I think several other, more specific movements will and should sprout from this. I can't understand why the people who started this couldn't give it more focus so people can actually explain what they want the movement to effect when asked. As it is, most interviews look like Jaywalking segments from The Tonight Show.

I agree completely. Its almost..actually, not almost, it is comical how bereft of leadership the OWS movement is. How stupid some (most?) of the participants sound when a mic gets put in their face.

But I think the surprising turnout at these sites is indicative of people's distaste for the government on many levels that arent easily dictated into comfortable, media-friendly soundbytes.

The movement lacks cohesion, and IMO, that may be its most beneficial attribute. Like you said, this disorganization will spring to life more focused offshoots that may be able to actually do something with this broken system.

Your absolutely right.......but wing-nuts work for the Corpocracy, so they'll spin this as a socialist take-over of our government, the protestors a bunch of unemployed hippies and former Acorn personal....and wing-nuts will fall for it....truth is, the OWS crowd is no particular fan of Obama either..

That maybe the course we may have to follow anyway....some in the know think that we, as well as Europe, with the coming crash of the Euro, and most of the world, with the Arab Spring, are all progressing toward something beyond Capitalism.....an awakening that we are all somehow connected...

This maybe what 2012 is really about...

    Shots reported at Occupy oakland..

"...Just moments before NBC Bay Area's Jodi Hernandez was to go on the air with a live report, she reported hearing shots fired at Occupy Oakland.

Hernandez said she heard 6 to 8 gunshots on the south side of Frank Ogawa Plaza followed by screaming from the area.

Police were not in the area at the time."
    Lnk

Don't think it was the police this time either...

While I'm now thoroughly convinced the majority of #Occupy is full of , I am equally humoured whenever the politicians against #Occupy say their democratic protests stand in the way of capitalism since democracy and capitalism are so clearly inseperable. NOT! There's nothing in the rulebook that says democratic societies HAVE to choose capitalism, but I do see how such a myth makes it easier for the elites to control things.

So yea, maybe that's what happens in 2012 - the homeless, hipsters, and vegans all unite to show us that democracy can choose something other than capitalism. I just hope 2012 doesn't stink as bad as those camp grounds do.

    of course..

Capitalism Is The Crisis: Radical Politics in the Age of Austerity examines the ideological roots of the austerity agenda and proposes revolutionary paths out of the current crisis.

The film features original interviews with Chris Hedges, Derrick Jensen, Michael Hardt, Peter Gelderloos, Leo Panitch, David McNally, Richard J.F. Day, Imre Szeman, Wayne Price, and many more!

The 2008 financial crisis in the United States was a systemic fraud in which the wealthy finance capitalists stole trillions of public dollars. No one was jailed for this crime, the largest theft of public money in history.

Instead, the rich forced working people across the globe to pay for their crisis through punitive austerity programs that gutted public services and repealed workers’ rights.

This do entary explains the nature of capitalist crisis, visits the protests against austerity measures, and recommends revolutionary paths for the future.

Special attention is devoted to the crisis in Greece, the 2010 G20 Summit protest in Toronto, Canada, and the remarkable surge of solidarity in Madison, Wisconsin.

    Looks like the sales pitch.

Capitalism isn't bad. What is bad is the improper implementation of regulations.

While social radical for many, the do entary does show how the OWS movement has evolved from all places, the Union battle In Wisconsin....how greater austerity programs here in the U.S. will mobilize larger segments of the population...how capitalism and the corporate takeover of our leadership is the cause of all this any why it is inevitable... and one possible way that people can survive in a post-capitalist society
