Actually, the replacement players option was there while the union was locked out. But seeing that there's no union now and there's no more exclusive bargaining, IIRC, teams can discuss and hire talent directly.
There would be no salary-caps, or luxury tax, no guaranteed deals, etc though. It's a full free-market system right at this moment.

The NBA players are so screwed. If you believe David Stern, there will be some mansion and ferrari selling fools out there. The deal they thought sucked in 1999 looks pretty darn good now doesn't it ?

Could be fun if the prices were at WNBA level. Maybe the only time most could see a game on the floor, anyways.
The whole point of seeing a game on the floor is to see how ridiculous these athletes are close-up though. Floor seats are terrible if you want to watch the spacing, see the passing lanes, and so on. They're great for seeing how strong these guys are, how quick and agile they are, how high they jump, how much they just beat the out of each other in the paint, and so on. For any league other than the NBA I'd much rather sit higher up since I know I'm not watching 1 in a million athletes. Even major program Division 1 NCAA ball doesn't have the level of athleticism to make me enjoy floor seats over seats 10-15 rows up.

Because, those are the players the owners are counting on to drag the players back in, via a general vote. The stars can hold out for a LONG time, and that's who the owners really need on the court.
