I'm 20+ hours into an Imperial tank mage. I liked the new casting system and wanted to try dual weilding a one hander and destruction spell, but find that it doesn't work too well. Destruction spells are too weak without dual wielding them, and you can't block with your weapon if you have a spell assigned to your off hand.

I always end up playing a thief in elder scroll games. I may just have to restart and do that this time around also.

From what I can tell destruction damage does not scale to level like weapon damage does. Which means you have to rely heavily on gear and perks to augment your damage. So doing a sword/spell combo will automatically gimp the out of you. I'm going to have to restart.

I'm a redguard and I'm just going with it.. my character has leveled a bit on destruction and I have one handed weapon also high.. I've been using destruction and weapon to get my kills... and when the enemies have strong weapons I just take out a shield..

The dragons have been easy with that combo, rarely have to use my shield.. Not really sure what it is I'm going for, but I'm just gonna keep going.

I have found that my weakness is mages, I was getting constantly killed by 3 on a college quest... but I figured it out.

so does leveling up in-and-of-itself improve you at all, or is it just the perks and the increase in health/magic/stamina?

also, is there a quest to take down the thieves guild? and if so, how do I get started on that?

Just the perks and increase in stats. Elder scrolls has always been more skill based rather than level based. Though leveling up non essential skills just to get more perks isn't necessarily a good idea just because the enemies scale up in difficulty.

lydia glitched on me again (seems like whenever you join a faction she resets). i went to kill this one dragon on an optional quest...so what i did was dragged it through some witches place...and then sprinted all the way to a mammoth camp with both the witch and dragon on my ass.

the giant and mammoths killed the dragon and witch, but then they were on to me so i ran them through a hunting camp and hid lol. mammoths/giant completly destroyed the camp and then left me alone.

lots of fun and innovative ways to kill .

A couple of things I find aggravating.

Sabre cats are stronger than dragons... WTF BETHESDA! and it's hard to sneak up on people even when you have high sneak stats. Sometimes they look straight at you and don't see you, then your 50 feet behind them not moving and they see you...

I kill Sabre cats rather easy, so I don't get where you got that from.. mammoths are stronger though, and the giants..

Of course if you are more advanced in the game. My orc tank and mage/theif have problems all around 8-12 level. I have not died once from a dragon and I have died multiple times from these cats. It's also been reported on Skyrim sites about the absurd easyness to kill dragons but not some other mundane .

well youre supposed to be some natural born badass dragon killer who owns dragons and sucks their souls out....and wtf dragons are ALOT more difficult to kill than cats. usually i need help on dragons but cats are cake. also theres different types of dragons, so some might be easier than others.

only issue i have with the game is how poorly horses respond to the terrain. ive killed over 10 horses by flying off invisible cliffs or down pits that shouldnt be there. its probably due to my laughable frame rate though...damn i need a new comp.

if youre so butthurt about difficulty, up your difficullty to the highest. i leave mine on expert and everything seems about right.

I haven't even encountered a dragon yet outside the opening sequence. My first character is lvl 15 or 16 and my new guy is close to 10. But then I've yet to mess with the main storyline.

You should. It's a fun game, but if you happen to have a couple days to spare, it's fairly quick.

Hey Manny, supposedly Bethesda hopes to patch the PS3 bug by Thanksgiving.

I think I'm gonna buy me a ps3 move bundle and skyrim.

BTW---how exactly do the difficulty settings work for Skyrim?

In Morrowind, I would always set difficulty to about 6/7th, cuz at maximum it just made the game too tedious, it wasn't like a legit difficulty increase.

There isn't a slider anymore. It's just settings, like novice, apprentice, adept, expert and master or some such .

Manny, forget renting. Idk where nono's at but I and I'd plan on putting several hundred hours into this . The main quest is like 3% of what this game is about. I'm twenty hours deep, haven't even touched the main quest and I'm completely overwhelmed with other stuff to do.

Somebody who posts more than me should create an Official Skyrim thread. Forget this Skyrim's a Month Away . It's here.

Game is the , for sure. Storyline quests are a bit of a let down, though. By that I mean the main quest and the guild quests. The main quest's story itself is ok, but it is over pretty quick for the "main quest". They did that with Oblivion too, though. Guild storylines are done in like 5 quests. That's the biggest disappointment IMO. Morrowind guilds had long, epic storylines. You really felt like you were working your way up, where as in Skyrim you just finished your n00b quests and all of the sudden you are leading the guild.

That being said, there are plenty of "random" quests to keep yourself occupied, but I have the most fun just wandering around and finding dungeons to loot. Dungeons are AWESOME. Very well designed, especially the Dwemer ruins. Lots of traps and puzzles and whatnot.

well theres 2 main story lines. ones is the main quest and one is more militaristic.

im not racing to beat the game...have two characters that are polar opposites to get a perspective on the game. out of the races ive played, breton seems like the most legit. has starting points in both warrior and mage constellations, also the special ability and passives are great against casters. so if you want a hybrid character, bretons are the way to go.

ive already put in 40 hours and havent even done the summons quest yet. doing the optional ones for whiterun and on the imperial military quest line right now.

sooo much to do, and if you have another character with a completely different setup and decisions, its like playing two games at once.

from what ive seen, horses are all pretty much the same and are worthless unless you need to explore a territory. i dont want to pay the gold (too expensive) so i wait until night when im hidden and steal one (on the pc "t" is to fast forward). they have three speeds like your character (for pc, hold down alt to sprint/gallop). took me awhile to figure out if you click on your map you can quick travel to any place that you have explored, so i wouldnt buy a horse for the long run...youll end up running off a cliff eventually because of the terrain.

and yes theyre supposed to release a patch sometime around thanksgiving. a week after i think.

    *spoliers*
    ....

so far ive seen 3 dragons but no trolls (dont want to from what ive read). i havent been able to solo a dragon yet and usually have to pull in other characters or animals to help out. most of the dragons come in deus ex machina fashion from both the storyline and optional quests. i dont know about the game systems, but steam has a nice set of achievements you can follow to really conquer the game instead of just beating it. 100s of hours of potential gameplay.

if you want to steamroll through all the optional quests before getting lydia after killing the first dragon, id recommend doing the companion quests until you get the two-hander swordsman following you. that dude WRECKS..so you can go into all the temples and bandit camps around whiterun and he'll basically solo everything for you.

People actually give a about Skyrim's main storyline? That's the least important part about these kinds of games.
