If any or all of the following events were to occur:
1. Pop being fired
2. RJ getting cut through the new amnesty clause
3. Bonner never leaving the bench
This team would surpass the win total of last season (adjusted for a shortened season, of course)?
I'd settle for getting out of the first round.
^tee, hee.
Then isn't that an admission that, from the perspective of winning basketball games, Pop / RJ / Bonner (the most frequent targets of criticism at this board) help make this team better?
Not quite. It's that the Spurs seriously overachieved in the regular season last year. If you repeat last season, the Spurs could very well win 53 instead of 61.
Edit: another explanation is that one or two of those factors help, so that removing all three wouldn't be good. Getting another big (demoting Bonner to #5 big man) and giving Leonard quality minutes would be huge steps forward.
Not at all. The Spurs played balls out to begin the season and completely ran out of gas to finish it. There's no way they do that again after the disaster of last season. Plus there's another year of age on Tim and Manu.
A more accurate q. would be if all three of those happened before the start of last season.
No doubt we go far beyond 1st Round, possibly all the way if the **Big 3** happened.
No way the Spurs would of beat Dallas last year, so going all the way wouldn't of happened.
