I say no. Age starts to creep in, just as it did for the Spurs. They might still rep the West, though.

Yeah, but its only 66 games
That is why I think the older teams like the Spurs, Mavs, Lakers, Celtics have a shot at winning it all. I say the Spurs win another *championship.

I see the Mavs as the team to beat this year. Last year wasn't a fluke, they kicked the out of people. If you remember their tour through Florida, they wiped the floor with both teams, and I believe that was without Butler.

It would be very tough. If they can somehow retain both Chandler and Butler, and stay healthy, they might have a shot.

Nothing would make me more sick than to see them get to the Finals and lose to the Heat though.

no, little chance repeating after a fluke championship, they will not have the surprise of being perenial chokers anymore, teams will give them more attention

    Especialy CHandler

IIRC, Chandler mised a lot of playoff games last season

But at the same time, everybody is looking to beat the Champs, so they may need him more than I think

Its bull to assume teams weren't "paying attention" (whatever that means) to the Mavs cause they thought they were chokers. The Mavs wont repeat cause Chandler isn't coming back, plain and simple. If the Mavs are able to retain Chandler then its a different story.

They could definitely make it back, as the WC is kind of up in the air...but I don't see how Miami loses this time--if they do then LeBron James is easily the biggest fraud in sports.

If Miami gets Dalembert, it will be very hard to find a team that can beat them.

Don't think so. A lot of it depends on if Chandler is re-signed, as he seemed to bring the change in physicality and mentality that the Mavs sorely needed, but I still think they had a "fairytale run" last season that propelled them all the way to the le. It was like a perfect storm of player desperation, compatible playoff opponents, and an amazing run by Dirk which I think he will be hard-pressed to repeat. Very similar to the way things fell into place for the 2003 Spurs.

Mavs will be good, but my bet is they go down in the WCSF or WCF.

More games in a smaller time frame doesn't really benefit the older teams with the inevitablely higher amounts of back to backs and less days between rest.

As for the OP, no. I hate to say it but I think the cHeat will win the 2012 championship. They were pretty close with 3 dudes and a pile of around them, all they need is a decent big man and a couple spot up shooters.

I wish I could say yes. I've said it here before, but a big reason why they were so successful was pure motivation/fire, especially from Dirk. I don't think they'll have quite the same edge, and they're an old team who will be another year older. That being said, they're still the defending champs, they are still incredibly deep (assuming the retain most of their free agents), and crazier things have happened.

How about getting swept by the Lakers in the 1st round?

I disagree, despite the back to backs etc......The smaller sample of overall games should benefit the older more experienced teams in the league come playoff time.

I highly doubt it. Mavs/Spurs/Lakers are on the way out. OKC or Memphis out of the West.

It's possible, but the way the schedule is going to be now will probably mean an extra 2-3 games a month because of the almost 2 months of lost time. It's hard to say right now because we know no details of the new schedule but either way more games in less time is bad for older teams. Look at the 1999 Jazz.
