Other than Nene, or Kaman, what bigmen do you think
the Spurs have a realistic shot at?

Turiaf could exercise his option, and would look at the Spurs,
since he works well with TP. I haven't seen much from Turiaf though.

    http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.c...ry-apparently/

Center Eddy Curry is increasing his chances of generating serious interest from the Heat. Respected Chicago-based trainer Tim Grover said last week that since Curry’s workout with Miami in late June, he has lost another 28 pounds and is now at 300. Curry weighed 350 when he auditioned for Miami in March. Curry intrigues Pat Riley, who might offer him a minimum deal postlockout if he loses another 12 pounds or so. His skills “are there, no question,” Grover said.
I'd give the guy a look that's for sure. He still is only 29 and he could be beneficial against fatties like Bynum and Marc.

The guy has been working out "day and night" according to the article to get back in the league. It's unlikely he did all that for a min check. Meaning he has at least one good year in him. Or even better he changed and is ready to play out the rest of his career. The fact is the Spurs need to get significantly better and to do that they need to take a gamble. This is a gamble I would take.

He's done, IMO. The reason he's working out is because those checks ain't coming anymore. Dude is still 300 pounds... come on son...

I will not be happy to see Oberto in black&silver again. Plus, I really won't be happy to see his heart explode on the court.

The article is from Aug 14. For all I know he's 285 pounds and has incredible conditioning because he's been working out for a year trying to get into playing shape.

The truth is, there just aren't that many really all-around good big men. The ones that are good command a premium price, and we're in salary .

There are guys like Blair - Leon Powe (before the injury), Linas Kleiza, even Paul Millsap, who are really too small for the job. Against some opponents, and on certain nights, they look really good. But they can't anchor a team deep into the playoffs, against the really good bigs in the league. If we got one of them, we would be happy at first, and upset by the end of the season.

Chris Kaman's contract is expiring. We could probably get him, if we sent Parker to move the ball for Blake Griffin. That's sort of self-defeating. And it's going to be the same story for any other big as good, or better than Kaman.

There are guys like Aaron Gray who are legit 7-footers, and show some potential, but have never really done anything. They show flashes in their 12 minutes per game, and people always believe that they could/would put up triple the numbers if they were getting triple the minutes. But they wouldn't. He wouldn't add enough to the overall team to get excited about. But he's still servicable enough that even to get someone like him would require giving up a young, cheap player that nobody wants to lose.

Anybody that we can afford would either cost us a player (Tony), or won't make enough difference. Our solution for a big man is to hope that Splitter improves, and becomes the player we hope he can be - this season. And hope that Blair improves and becomes the next Paul Millsap (or at least pre-injury Leon Powe).

I like Josh McRoberts. Started a bunch of games last year, and is a favorite among Pacer fans for how hard he plays and his ability to spark the team and make things happen.

Not a good defender, but neither is Bonner or Blair. Can spread the floor a little, and is likely to be in the Spurs price range, even if they're limited to the tax mini-MLE thanks to RJ's dumb contract.

I'd also like Bourousis, though mainly for the comedy of KBP posting on every thread every day about how Pop is misusing the great Greek warrior.

Spurs, Pistons keeping close check on Chris Kaman, but Clippers won't move him until resolution on restricted free agent DeAndre Jordan.

I should add that according to news reports, San Antonio is not one of the teams that has contacted him (they being the Hornets, Lakers, and Grizzlies besides the Pacers.

Kaman played one pre- season game with the Spurs. Is that right 05-06?
