To be sure, one could argue that Jesus was more pissed they were doing such in a house of worship. But I think trying to paint Jesus as some sort of free market paragon is foolish.
I agree with the overall idea that . I don't think he would be for using the government to redistribute money so to give to the poor. However there were
many parables about god wanting people to have a good work ethic As well as god loving the poor and mist rotten more than the rich.

Absolutely, in much the way that us Conservatives are angry that the Federal Government is overstepping its authority and is basically butt- ing the Cons ution (which is also a sin) - Jesus was angry that merchants were defiling the temple.

Agreed, but I don't think Jesus was some champion of free marketing, more so than he was about working an honest living.

I could have sworn the carpentry business was lucrative back then.

    J.C. was a 1 percenter, iirc.

I think that Jesus would probably be aghast at the rampant materialism of the modern USA.

    But that is my opinion.

"Jesus/God/whatever is on my side" is always a pointless, if sometimes amusing, sometimes hypocritical, exercise.

Based on what survives of the man's opinions, I don't think our treatment of the homeless and mentally ill would generally meet his approval, nor would the conservative War on the Poor likely make him overly happy.

" the poor, it is their own damn fault they can't afford new shoes".

Why not. Jesus was amonst the poor(born in a manger ) and was concerned for the welfare of the poor. He was against the super rich. Sharing and redistributing wealth would not be against his beliefs.

    Anti-materialist but free market?

Yeah, that doesn't exactly make a lot of sense.

Why not. Jesus was amonst the poor(born in a manger ) and was concerned for the welfare of the poor. He was against the super rich. Sharing and redistributing wealth would not be against his beliefs.
Luke 18 18 A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
19 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 20 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’[a]”

21 “All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said.

22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

23 When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy. 24 Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! 25 Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
I think in how I interpret is that letting government do it, giving an amount that doesn't "hurt" or giving an amount, scheduled every week is not how he wants humans to give.
    2 Thessalonians 3
Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is walking in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us. For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone's bread without paying for it, but with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you. It was not because we do not have that right, but to give you in ourselves an example to imitate. For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.
    (2 Thessalonians 3:6-10 ESV)

Probably the same reason people today need reality TV.
