Kind forgot about this in the all the lock out news, but the 50+ regular season record will not be extended by the Spurs.
Shame you can't count the 1999 season, although the trend is the same.
    Season City W L
    2010-11 San Antonio 61 21
    2009-10 San Antonio 50 32
    2008-09 San Antonio 54 28
    2007-08 San Antonio 56 26
    2006-07 San Antonio 58 24
    2005-06 San Antonio 63 19
    2004-05 San Antonio 59 23
    2003-04 San Antonio 57 25
    2002-03 San Antonio 60 22
    2001-02 San Antonio 58 24
    2000-01 San Antonio 58 24
    1999-00 San Antonio 53 29
    1998-99 * San Antonio 37 13
    1997-98 San Antonio 56 26

I know it's just a regular season record, but I still think it could have been hard to beat.

It's too bad that the media fixates on round numbers like 50. The 1999 team had the winning percentage of a 61-win team in an 82-game season, and I think the Spurs will win at least 41 (the threshold for that .609756 winning percentage corresponding to 50 wins in an 82-game season).

yeah, if there are shortened seasons, you should go percentages anyway.

The Spurs started 6-8 in '99 and won at an .861 rate after that. That's equal to a 65 win season. And they tore through the playoffs at about the same rate.

If you made it 50 wins or the equivalent, the Spurs would basically have to go 41-25 to extend the streak that started in 1997-98.

Thats funny, because after looking at the schedule closely, 41 wins are exactly my estimation for this season (with the current projected roster).

That's an interesting estimation considering we don't even know what the starting lineup will be.

IMO starting lineup is not that important, but the estimation is based on the current roster without major upgrades. I know much will happen from December 9th, most of which will change the Spurs' opponents strengths.

But when I look at the posts in this forum, estimating things under uncertainty makes up the largest part right now.

I knew I would log on this morning and someone would have resurrected a 50 win thread from earlier this year.

Make no mistake, I'm happy about it...but let's be honest...it was almost luck that they did it. They went 21-2 to end the season, including that brutal stretch this month and playing the Lakers three times. There's also the fact that they managed to dump RJ for Stephen ing Jackson.

If you are telling me that you believed they were capable of that in the preseason then I'm telling you that you're full of .

I didn't think we would hit 50 because I never thought we would find a way to get rid of RJ.
Shame on me for doubting our resourcefulness

...and we caught a Phoenix team that had just been eliminated and a GS team in full tank mode. I'm glad we did it, but everything had to break just perfect for it to happen.

I'm a believer/homer/sunshine pumper/whatever other excessively positive description you can come up with when it comes to the Spurs, but even I wouldn't have predicted 50 wins (especially after Manu got hurt--I mean, come on, really?).

This team is playing on a whole 'nother level this year, and my only hope is that they continue in the postseason. Go Spurs Go!

I wonder why the Spurs have had such a good run since 1997. Strange.

Yup...and now the Spurs stand alone with the longest streak of 50+ win years.

Obviously I did not expect the team to pull this off, but I love that they did.
Thanks Spurs for pulling off another 50 win season, without really trying. The fans appreciate it, especially when discussing their teams.
