Secretary of State Hillary Clinton marked International Human Rights Day with a phenomenal speech in Geneva yesterday. Over the course of 30 minutes, Clinton delivered a blunt yet inspiring speech that took on all the myths and canards about sexuality and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) people. Her address earned her a standing ovation in the Palais des Nations and will endear her and the Obama administration to gay people around the world.

After outlining the history of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and how they apply to all people seeking dignity and respect of who they are, Clinton declared, “[G]ay rights are human rights, and human rights are gay rights.”

It is violation of human rights when people are beaten or killed because of their sexual orientation, or because they do not conform to cultural norms about how men and women should look or behave. It is a violation of human rights when governments declare it illegal to be gay, or allow those who harm gay people to go unpunished. It is a violation of human rights when lesbian or transgendered women are subjected to so-called corrective rape, or forcibly subjected to hormone treatments, or when people are murdered after public calls for violence toward gays, or when they are forced to flee their nations and seek asylum in other lands to save their lives. And it is a violation of human rights when life-saving care is withheld from people because they are gay, or equal access to justice is denied to people because they are gay, or public spaces are out of bounds to people because they are gay. No matter what we look like, where we come from, or who we are, we are all equally en led to our human rights and dignity.

Hillary will go down as one of the best Secretary of States.

i wouldn't hang too much on Hilary Clinton bowing to the new social propriety and toothless international conventions, socially proper though it is to do so...

....though the recognition of gays as proper human beings fully vested with ordinary human rights, must be poignant for those whose actual lives do not conform with the ideal celebrated...

I wonder what exactly this changes. Since we were against these kinds of imprisonments already. Also what is she saying we are going to do to countries who actually do violate human rights to people for being sexual (ie imprisonment, death)? Is she creating a new new world order? Will we force our standards on these violators?

Yes, it's only words, but it's a positive message.

Diametrically opposite of the non-stop hate messages from US "Christian" LGBT-hate groups.

    and hate from JimmyRicky:

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton initially expressed serious concern on Monday and reaffirmed that message during a Tuesday visit to the former Soviet republic of Lithuania.

"As we have seen in many places, and most recently in the Duma elections in Russia, elections that are neither free not fair have the same effect," Ms Clinton said in Lithuania.

The Right Goes Wild: Conservatives Condemn Obama Administration For Treating Gay People As Human

Rick Perry: “This is just the most recent example of an administration at war with people of faith in this country. Investing tax dollars promoting a lifestyle many Americas of faith find so deeply objectionable is wrong. President Obama has again mistaken America’s tolerance for different lifestyles with an endorsement of those lifestyles.”

Rick Santorum: “Obviously the administration is promoting their particular agenda in this country, and now they feel its their obligation to promote those values not just in the military, not just in our society, but now around the world with taxpayer dollars.”

Matt Barber (Liberty Counsel): “[President Obama] feels compelled to export American culture’s decline in morality, and export that immorality to other nations that are trying to adhere to traditional principles relative to human sexuality.”

Peter LaBarbera (American For Truth About sexuality): “Reading Hillary’s UN #gay rights speech. The arrogance of modern liberalism is astounding: redefining sin as a *human right.*“

Pat Robertson (The 700 Club): “Isn’t it appalling that the United States of America would try to force the acceptance of sexuality on other nations but at the same time we would not force them to take care of their religious minorities and they would permit discrimination and persecution of Christians?”

Vic Eliason (Voice of Christian Youth America): “The inmates have taken over the asylum.”

Mat Staver (Liberty Counsel): “[The Obama administration] is forcing foreign countries to fund and liberalize… the radical sexual anarchist agenda.”

Janet Mefferd (radio personality): “Other than the fact that you have African countries that have policies like Nigeria, criminalizing sexuality, are they not a sovereign nation? Can’t they make up their own minds about these things? If they want to pass a law we’re going to play bully over this issue?”
