    He didn't opt out and wasn't a free agent. It was a trade. Salary dump by Phoenix as all they got was a conditional second round pick in return. Toronto had the cap space to absorb the contract.

    IMO i guess players have to be amnestied before 2pm ET so that they can negotiate with other teams...and if no one claims them after being amnestied they become UFA..
