^ Scola would start. Dragic might also.
Basically the Hornets roster would have looked like this:
C Okafor (very good defensive center, solid offensively, pretty good overall)
PF Odom, Scola (Versatile PF who can defend and score. Scola is a good scorer)
SF Ariza, Pondexter (Excellent defender, but ty offensively. Backup is a project)
SG Martin (Excellent scorer, poor defender, but Ariza would bail him out defensively)
PG Jack, Dragic (Solid at best. Would need an upgrade)
Basically, 3 of the starter would be excellent defenders. Martin can score. Odom's versatile. Plus, the Hornets wouldn't be done. They may have traded Odom elsewhere.
^ Scola would start. Dragic might also.
I would hope not. His defense blows. Scola would be better used off the bench for his scoring.
Dragic may start, but Monty would trust Jack more. Also, wonder if the Hornets would place a bid for Billups.
That's a stunningly mediocre team.
You dodged a bullet.
Where's that new owner you were talking about?
This is true. Your insight is astute.
It won't happen till the new lease is signed.
Why would an ownerless team sign a long term lease?
That makes no sense whatsoever. It could be a disaster of epic proportion.
Because, it means long-term security for the team. The previous lease wasn't great for the Hornets. So the new owner was waiting for the new CBA, 10,000 season tickets, and a brand new lease which is more favorable. Once the new lease is signed, then the ownership will be announced. If there is no long-term lease, then no owner. That's common knowledge in New Orleans.
What if no one buys the team?
And you really need to stop pimping the artificially inflated season ticket count.
They have an owner in place. They had multiple goals when the team was sold to the league.
1) Get rid of the massive debt from the previous owner. Done
2) Establish more corporate sponsorships. Done
3) Have a new CBA. Done
4) Sell 10,000 season tickets. Done. Artificial or not. Someone bought them.
5) Sign a long-term lease.
6) New owner announced.
That would have Kept N.O. somewhat compe ive.
Who?
Why would he want all those tens of millions of dollars in new obligations he didn't have yesterday?
And was he even asked if he liked the trade?
Yes, it's called the NBA.

As of yesterday, there's no prospective ownership group, just a goal of finding one early in the new year.
As Chump said, I'd be interested in seeing what the Chris Paul trade does to the value of the team.
teams built round a PG never win championships. rockets used to be stern's love baby but he has lost favor in them since the 7'6 mascot has retired
Trade doesn't make business sense if you are the owner of the Hornets. None of the people mentioned outside of Paul can sell a single ticket.
It's not about being a mid level team. The Hornets are already that.
It's about causing fans to want to watch the Hornets, to get excited about the prospects the Hornets have of competing on the big stage. It's not about fielding a decent team.
Fans that know they aren't going to win it all still have the comfort of "we have the best PG in the league".
Who's going to wear the Odom jersey, or the Scola jersey in New Orleans?
No one.
