The Spurs simply have a very expensive big 3... and the 4th guy (RJ) is just a trade asset due to the contract. That just gives you very little wiggle room. TD comes off the books next year, so they'll have some flexibility then.
right!! players calling the shots big markets reloading wtf changed![]()

Disgusting.
Lakers are bound to get Howard, CP3 ends up in NY next year (no matter where he plays this season), Mavs stay compe ive with a horribly lopsided deal, and the Spurs still have RJ.
If you can't tell by my last few posts, I'm disgusted.
YES, but thats at the expense of Timmays last year in. I will miss him alot if he doesn't resign for cheap next year and play another year, but man his last years were wasted. THANK GOD we had a prime Tim for David and he was on top his last year and we were a compe or his last few.I AM THERE, I am disgusted and about done with this crap.
It's allright. I'm glad we're honoring the guys that brought thehome.
Pretty much. If you don't draft well you essentially have no chance as a small market team. This is really getting old and ruins the league.
This season should be the least of the Spurs concerns. They need to trade Parker and Ginobili ASAP and lean on RC's drafting ability. The draft is the single way the Spurs can be built; always has been, always will be.
Won't happen.
Oh yeah our guys are loyal! They do not run to other teams to get rings and all the hype! I take my hats off to all of them, they never begged to be traded or whined for help like others (Kobe etc.). This leauge and superteams has lost it's iden y now.
I agree and there's still more value for the big 3 ahead instead of "blowing it up" - get young players and develop them under the guidance and tutelage of the big 3. Besides, I don't think the return value would actually be more valuable..
Will the Spurs ever be fortunate enough to draft a player like TD again? Odds are that they won't, but the hope is that they can still use the draft and free agency to acquire unknowns and mold them into efficient players in a good system. The only problem with that theory is that it hasn't been practiced in a while.
I'm not sure the league was even fighting for compe ive concessions for small market teams. Or were they? I dunno. It's a bit ed. It certainly didn't work.
Speaking of the draft. Here is a little known secret from small town down under Wellington New Zealand: Steve Adams 7.0" 18 yrs old. (TD. 2.0). I just came from the gym watching this guy play in Wellington this afternoon and the more I watch him the more I'm convinced this guy will be special.

Draft experess sees him going in the top 3 in the 2013 draft He is now considered the best big man young foreign talent avaialble.
I actually don't know how the NBA draft elegibility work, can he be drafted next year 2012? even if he scheduled to join Pitt Univessity as a freshman? He afterall should be considered as a foreign talent, aren't the rules different for foreigners, even if he attendng college in the US?
There is no way this guy is going late in the draft in 2013. So 2012 is the Spurs chance. If they can trade down to the top 10, he could be available . Some say if he was part of the 2011 draft he would be in the top 20.
The other thing I can say about Steve is he has TD type of demeneor and personality. This guys would be more confortable playing in San antionio than big cities. This guys will shy away from the big lights.
Well anyway just saying..
Only when the shots aren't falling though.

Not sure how it's the Lakers' fault that they're willing to trade everyone to get Dwight Howard and the Spurs aren't willing to trade anyone to get anyone. It's also not the Lakers' fault that the Spurs traded for a guy with a ty contract and didn't trade it away when it had value, instead conspiring with the guy against the rules to extend his contract and pay him more money, praying that he was going to suddenly be something he'd never been in his career.
I don't get the Odom to Dallas trade.
The reason why Mavs didn't keep Chandler was to get cap space in 2012. Trading for Odom will eat some of this cap space. Odom has a $8.2M salary in 2012-2013 that is $2.4M guaranteed.
This trade makes no sense for Lakers unless it's followed by another trade. They are some rumors with Howard and Paul but it's far from sure they can get either.
A weird move.
I read that the Mavs shrewedly used the trade exception they just received for Tyson Chandler. Basically, they got Odom for nothing. The trade exception, now acquired by the Lakers, could help them take back an additional contract the Magic want to dump, in any potential Dwight Howard trade scenario. Supposedly, the ulterior motive behind the Mavs move to acquire Odom is to help enable the Fakers to trade for Howard. Their thinking is if Howard ends up in Fakerland, as opposed to New Jersey, then Deron Williams will be less likely to stay in New Jersey. The Mavs desparately want to entice Williams, a Dallas native, to consider coming home and playing for the Mavs.
76ers beat writer is saying that Speights is 'almost certain' to be moved.
after odom's crying on the radio and decision to skip practice, it is pretty clear the lakers needed to send him away. this will give the lakers some flexibility in cap room and a TE for when a good deal comes along. now they can be in the running for howard.
The trade exception is useless in a trade for Howard. It's too small to absorb Hedo's contract. Magic could ask Lakers to take Duhon or Q Rich contract but Lakers have still another trade exception big enough to do it.
Since this doesn't really help Lakers getting Howard, I don't see why Mavs would do it with Deron Williams as "ulterior motive".

Speights and Brand have a very bad relationship. I guess it's smart to move one of them. He is an interesting young bigman even if there are some red flags surrounding him.
