anyone heard any news on K. Humphries that is not Kardashian or marriage related???
Obviously so far this offseason has been very disappointing. Observing our roster, our real big weakness is the frontline. I think the type of BIG that Spurs are targeting are the more mobile, skilled big that could play the 4 rather than the traditional 5 such as C. Kaman etc. Here's the thing, even though T. Duncan is listed as PF but he's really a C these days since he doesn't have the foot speed to keep up with the more agile 4 these days such as D. Nowtizki, L. Odom, etc. Imagine a starting front court of T. Duncan and C. Kaman or T. Duncan and J. Pryzbilla, that would be the slowest front line in the whole entire NBA.
Of the remaining FA bigs:
my top option is K. Humphries, and it doesn't look like NJ is going to resign him with talks of offering Nene a huge contract and talk of trading for D. Howard. I think he will come at around the 5-6 mil range which is about the whole MLE. Unless we waive RJ, the only way we could get him is maybe through S&T (A. McDyess, Future 1st pick) for K. Humphries.
the other option is C. Landry, i'm not really as high on him as K. Humphries, he's basically another undersized big, he has a very good offensive game and plays very hard but he struggles to rebound at a good rate. I assume C. Landry will also cost the full MLE.
On the trade market:
Tyrus Thomas comes to mind as a potential trade target. He's one of the most athletic big in the league today. He's a good shot blocker and a good stealer, but a bit low on BB IQ. I really feel that he'd be the perfect fit next to T. Duncan, he's athletic enough to guard all the mobile 4s and the 3s in the NBA, he could offer rim protection and due to his quickness, he'll have no problem guarding the pick and roll, on offense he also has a reliable mid-range game, which is something very important in the Spurs system so it won't clog the lane up. I feel that there's a possibility that Bobcats may be willing to trade him since he really hasn't fulfill his full potential after they signed him to the big contract last year. He's getting paid about 7.5 mil this year and it'll run til 2015 which he'll be getting paid 9.5 mil then. Bobcats have one of the lowest box office, so i assume they love to cut cost, and also they also just drafted another highly similar player in Biyombo. Maybe a A. McDyess + D. Blair for T. Thomas could work.

I'm slightly surprised Glen Davis wound up far more important in the NBA than Tyrus Thomas, his LSU mate, ever did. I was a Big Baby defender back in the day - when others laughed at the notion of using a 2nd rounder on him - but this combination surprises.
Since Cowboys season is over, I really hope the Spurs do something to make me actually give a about them. Please don't sit back and pull a Romo, get something done front office...
Humphries would rock, but it's a shame he wouldn't be bringing Kardashian's fine ass with him.
whats sean williams doing these days? hes a headcase but hes young and talented
Not the caliber of player that makes a difference on this squad.
tyrus thomas huh?
maybe...
spurs did try to trade for him a while back
I didn't even realize Tyrus was a possibility. Please sign him spurs
Not a FA. He was brought up as a trade possibility. And he's not as good as the OP makes him sound. As an undersized PF that can't guard bigs and has no semblance of a post game, he's paid way too much for way too long.
same as rj
perfect trade

RJ will be cut, plain and simple. Spurs aren't taking on another bad contract, which is the only thing you're getting for RJ's bad contract. Not when they can get rid of him and only have 25% of his salary count against the cap.
Larry Sanders from Bucks
Colonel Sanders
I agree, for the most part, with the OP's take on Thomas. I wish we had gotten him when he was a FA, but I'm glad we didn't sign him to that contract Charlotte did. Now though, with the defensive strength of our bigs rotation? I would take that on probably. Losing Blair in a trade for him might not be worth it though imo; Blair is a much lower risk with less $/years left, and say what you will about him people of Spurstalk, but he remains an absolute rebounding beast. Rebounding is easily a top three factor in any basketball game (with offensive efficiency and defense as the others, in my mind), but it could definitely be argued that with what this roster needs right now, Thomas' athletic ability and rim protecting presence would be more valuable that what DBlair gives us.
I don't trust Kris Humphries' stats. Yes, he averaged a double-double, but on a terrible team with possibly the worst rebounding starting center in the league last season-- Brook Lopez, who at 7' & 265 lbs managed to grab 5.9 rpg while playing 35 minutes. There was simply no one else grabbing rebounds on that team. I think if Tiago Splitter or Matt Bonner had started for the Nets last season they probably would have put up similar or better numbers...
My guess is they will go after Pryzbilla.
Hope they do.
It'd be great if we could sign Przybilla. He's one of the better rebounders out there.
How do you know Kaman is off table?
Pryzbilla is retiring http://twitter.com/#%21/ChrisMannixS...09382746664960
and there goes another option ...
