I always say "Yay, Jesus!" when I give each Christmas gift. You simply don't believe if you don't.
If a family is ignorantly celebrating those things in the privacy of their own home, I agree to say you're wrong.
I always say "Yay, Jesus!" when I give each Christmas gift. You simply don't believe if you don't.
Even if You are spoken only once, and even if You are spoken disrespectfully or in jest, You at once remove the many terrible sufferings of everyone.- Sri Krishna Namastakam Verse 2 by Srila Rupa Goswami
I do say something similar when the cc statements arrive.
Yeah! And what's up with the star on top? Makes no sense.
leap years are of the devil.
If atheists are giving gifts at Christmas -- in this over-commercialized environment that now starts before Thanksgiving -- they're participating in Christmas.
That doesn't make them Christians. In fact, it just may make them social creatures that want to be a part of a celebratory season, whatever the reason.
I don't think Black Friday or Cyber Monday were created to honor Christ but, yet, a lot of Christmas gifts are purchased that weekend. I'm not sure the Magi waited for a sale on Gold, Frankincense, or Myrrh before s ing out the guidas required to purchase them for the Christ child.
Just sayin'
Not in our current social context.
It is the Christmas season. People decorate at this time of year because it is the Christmas season. Radios change their programming, schools, government offices, and businesses close all because of Christmas. It is everywhere. Jesus's name is RIGHT there in the word: CHRISTmas. You can't miss it, no matter how naive, blind and ignorant you might be (present company begrudgingly included). The reason for the season is the birth of Jesus Christ.
If the Romans and Egyptians put a tree in during the winter, this is the first I've heard of it; so I could not have been partaking in that tradition; if that tradition evolved into the celebration that we now understand as Christmas - fine; but it's Christmas now.
No ! Why don't they just calibrate the second to eat up that other quarter of a day, over the course of the year. We have the technology!
So, if you don't think about it, there's no hypocrisy.
Indeed.
How bad did that kid stink that he needed frankincense and myrrh?
Just sayin'.
Look, all you atheists have made your bona fides on this board! I get it. You don't believe in Jesus, or God, or anything resembling those. You think people who do are naive, misguided and simple minded. I get that. You don't have to restate those facts.
I am not claiming otherwise. However, just like when I attended a yell practice while bleeding burnt orange 22 years ago; I wasn't celebrating or cheering the Aggies on to victory, but I WAS participating in the festivities.
So if atheists are celebrating Christmas with the Christians, who is leading the war on Christmas?
Well, what is it?
Look! Tim Tebow!
Were you a hypocrite?
You're weak today.
I didn't know about the pagan traditions. Unless you are completely ignorant, you are well aware of Christmas.
(and now I'll go all Chumpy on ChumpDumper):
So which is it?
Are you a hypocrite, or are you ignorant?
Can we pretend this thread was created in 2012 so we can nominate for "Most Failed Thread" of 2012?
You are assuming I'm atheist.
I'd say you are the ignorant one today.
Was it important?
For what it's worth, I'm going to celebrate it like every other American... buying presents for my family and drinking eggnog.
I think nothing of the sort. I sometimes envy Christians their faith and think each of us should be left to seek comfort where possible.
you must be a good Christian
Dude...thats some nasty stuff.
