If this is true, who else thinks this involves Shawne or Shelden (hopefully the latter) Williams? But hopefully we can make a go at Kris Humphries.

RJ will be amnestied. The question is if it is this year or next year. The Spurs have a realistic shot at offering a max contract next year if Duncan is signed for a reasonable salary and RJ is gone. Without Tim the team payroll is $34.2M in 2012. If Tim signs for $10M and the cap is $58M then that leaves us with $14M to offer. Not sure what other big names are available next year (Dwight and Deron aint coming to SA) but I am sure we'll amnesty RJ to have at least have the cap space and bring in some talent.

The deadline to amnesty RJ is tomorrow (Friday). I guess it will be at 2 pm ET since the NBA market has started at that hour. Spurs have 36hours remaining to use it or not on a player this year.
well, so far it looks like RJ is safe. 30 more minutes and he's home free to choke all over the Spurs and play like garbage for another year.

Shame on the Spurs. Shame on Pop. Shame on RC.

They had a chance to reclaim something of themselves, but they've screwed it up.

Welcome to "These playoffs not for him-Wouldn't be fair to the team-Needs to get over himself-No corporate knowledge-CITY" Kawhi . . . . Population : You (and Splitter).

EDIT - Yeah, I got the dates wrong. RJ is still garbage. Shame on Pop and RC for even having him at camp.

After practice, Pop didn't quite come out and say RJ wouldn't be amnestied, but sure sounds like Spurs will keep him.

    fwiw about AK -

Jazz pbp David Locke is saying that he's heard AK's asking price for NBA teams is 4 years starting at 9 a year. Says he heard the closest he's heard a team coming to that is Sacramento supposedly offered a deal at 8 a year.

I've only been popping in every couple days, so it's hard for me to follow the news, but AK was kind of an exciting prospect to think about it. He'd be a good fit.

I think we'd get outbid for AK. Most of Timvp's remaining available list results in exchanging average for less than average.

Not good. Let's hope Leonard can exceed rookie expectations.

Outlaw being waived probably means the RJ to New Jersey rumor was either fake, or the discussions never lead to anything. I don't see NJ doing a 2-for-2 trade, with so much roster space to fill. Probably was never anything to it, which is a good thing.

Time is about to run out on the amnesty possibility. Looks like RJ will be a Spur this season. We're gonna have so much corporate knowledge, they will be setting up Occupy Spurs outside the arena.

the only positive spin I could see to the Outlaw amnesty is this:

Now New Jersey could use a small forward!

If the Spurs did amnesty RJ, they could be a great candidate for picking him up with a bid.

Yeah... the problem is, the only thing that helps is Holt's pocketbook. I'd be happy for him, and all that, but it doesn't help the team's ability to sign players.

it also helps in that it frees Kawhi and Anderson from not being fair to the team.

Once Neal is back behind Manu, and with Ford behind Parker, there just won't be enough minutes for Kawhi and JA to get them ready for the playoffs when Jefferson does his choking disaster routine.

Outlaw is taller than 6'7", so he automatically helps solve the big man problem for the Spurs (note: rule unknown to Spurs fan is that all Spurs players at least 6'7" and above are automatically considered bigs with the exception of some 6'6" players).

So, theoretically with the addition of Novak and possibly Outlaw, the Spurs would have 8 bigs going in to the season - more than enough for a serious run at the le.

WTF ever happened to Kelenna Azubuike? Did he never recover from the knee injury?

He had knee surgery on a patellar tendon. His rehab didn't progress like it should. He played in a few scrimmages, but wasn't all there. (No explosiveness, lateral movement.) Turns out, they botched the repair job. Hard to believe that a multi-million dollar commodity couldn't get a competent repair job.

He had a second surgery in March. This time he says it feels much better than it did the first time. He was supposed to have played in an exhibition game in November, but I never heard how that worked out. He says that he believes he will be able to play in the NBA again, but it's hard to know if he's just whistling past the graveyard.

If he's going to be able to complete a comeback, there should be some signs of it very soon. I would love for the Spurs to be the ones to give him a chance, and have it work out (for both). It would be very cool to see him stashed in the D-League to see if he could be ready to shore up the defense by playoff time. Pretty low risk and high reward. There's a chance that with a competent repair job, he might get back to being the player he was.

I can't really see anyone on that list that I wouldn't rather have than Matt Bonner in the bigman rotation.

Maurice Evans has agreed to a deal with the Washington Wizards, according to sources close to the situation.
